How many times a week can you stop in the bank and ask for coins, before you become annoying, unwanted, "that guy", etc etc??

My pickup bank will only get halves if I buy a box, can't do that so not gonna be that guy. My dump bank has rolls sometimes, but not sure it's good practice to pickup from your dump.

Can you add once a fortnight and once a month? I can't imagine going to the same bank once a week; I'd say closer to once a month!

Actually there is a sign outside my bank asking me not to come in. Imagine the nerve of them. I shower every month whether I need to or not. Sheesh, JP

I think it just depends. I know that tellers are often busy and usually (though not always) have more important things to do than search the bank for halves and get rolls and boxes of coins for me. But if you establish a courteous and friendly relationship with the tellers and are patient with them if they are busy then I don't think there is much to be concerned about. But then I'm usually just looking for loose and cwr halves and I've only just started ordering half boxes so I don't do near the volume that a lot of you do - so that would be a little different.

But most of the tellers I see at the many different banks where I live know me as the coin guy or the half dollar guy (I would assume) or some know me by name and they are usually glad to get rid of their half dollars so it seems to work out just fine. Sometimes they even tell me they were just talking about me because someone just gave them some half dollars and they were wondering how soon I would be stopping by. That's the good thing about half dollars - tellers don't usually want them so they often seem glad to see me so they can get rid of them.

And I know where I live that if I don't stop at some of the banks to check with them on a regular basis then I am going to be missing out on some finds because they often tell me that other people come in and ask for halves too and sometimes I'm too late.

I've also started giving out chocolate to some of the tellers so maybe this might make me a little more of a welcomed sight or at least less of an unwelcomed one.

Ooooh I have an idea, ladies and gentlemen!

How about asking your teller! Say that you like to check back every from time to time to see if they have anything new, and how often do they think you should come by?

Or say you were thinking of checking back next week, would that be too soon?

If they say once a month is plenty (especially if they say that halves rarely come in) then you probably shouldn't be bugging them every week. But if they say one a week is fine, then they can't blame you for coming in that often :-)

I'll try to work this into my conversations, especially on my super-local banks. Of course, they also have my phone number - not that I've gotten many calls - so maybe a combination of the two.

To be honest, I think it just really depends. There have been some banks that have no half dollars one day and $15 in loose ones 2 days later. In all honesty where I am now (college town) I couldn't care less about bugging tellers. There is one bank easily in walking distance which doesn't really get in much coin and I go there every day before classes and get a few bucks in rolled coin. Yes I am "that guy" and quite honestly I don't care about these banks. I have an account there, never dump there and do pretty small volume.

Once a month, the tellers do not particularly like me, but they have not mentioned the "F" word yet, they cut my order down from 3 down to 2. I tried ordering 4 boxes last time which is when they said 2 is plenty. I am just happy they told me that instead of mentioning the "F" word. also, these are half dollar boxes.

I've found that once a week doesn't seem to be overkill. I usually hit 5-10 'core' banks about once a week with no issues. Some of the tellers actually told me to check back as often as I wanted as they are more than happy to get rid of them. I live in a smaller suburban/borderline rural area so that might have something to do with it since these particular banks don't seem to get many people asking.

I've also had plenty of tellers that act like I am inconveniencing them (usually I am literally the only person in the bank too), I usually hit those banks less frequently...maybe once or twice a month.

As far as asking for halves, I don't think tellers ar
e going to roll their eyes at you. Dumping is where the issue lies-- especially when it is halves. I wore out my welcome in 3 different banks in past 6 months by bringing them in. All 3 told me they would start charging me and I only went in there once every 2-3 weeks.

Never had an issue with asking for halves where I felt I wore out my welcome.

Last Saturday, i decided to hit a bank I've never hit. Went in asking if i could order 3000. Said that was too much and it would a hassle to carry. Said he could order me 1500, i said okay of course (better than nothing) The guy called me 30mins later informing me that he would do 1500 for me this week and 1500 next week. I went in today to pick up the 1500 i ordered. The teller was really nice and i asked if i could do a continuous order of halves. He said sure, every friday and wednesday i would get 1000. Pretty happy.

Sliverfaces post is about where I am with my CRH. I use multiple banks. Tellers know me and often ask where my shadow is (three yr old grandson) who I usually am baby sitting when dumping or picking up. Frankly, I pass out a lot of candy bars and sometimes some flowers to the folks who help me. They appreciate it and say it breaks up there day some. The dumping part is a concern. I use the TD penny arcade a great deal with loose stuff. Fortunately there are two that are relatively close to my location and a third one not all that much farther away. The folks there always have treated me very nice, even when I end up making them change bags in the middle of a coin dump. Passed out a little sweet stuff there today, and am glad I did as the machine gave a good bit of trouble and caused a bit of grief for one of the tellers to get it going. Gonna drop some more tomorrow for them for their effort.
