found in a Ma.few yrs back in farm field where flakes are found and few points have been found

Just curious, looks like a soapstone nugget, do you know what the material is?

It looks like a piece of Limestone to me and not an artifact.

round edge is actually worked - smaller end is actually smooth
like it was held at that end and possibly a hand tool
the stains on the smaller end actually looks like
it could be blood - stone is slightly porous - so this could be

smaller end - one side has a slight indentation that is very smooth
some staining - other side has more brownish red staining and is also smooth
I have big hands - but stone fits with small end between thumb and forefinger
comfortably - wondered if it could have been used to grind corn - found in colonial town corn field
if positioned with finger in smooth grove - could they have used this to nap?
second stone was found near by - out of ordinary so I picked up too
it has reddish brown staining on one end too
never noticed but it looks like something on other side
the point and pieces of points were found within 20 yards of these to stones
no other rocks near by - some flint flakes and small chips found around area too
I study geology for a few yrs - these just do not like naturally formed stones to me
look like some one used them for something
also found a home made spoon out of copper in same area - will take pics in someone wants
to see - dont know if it is something indian tried to make from copying a colonial one
the outside form is cut edges - which I dont know how they would have done
unless they borrowed some snips - but the bowl of spoon is what interested me
it was pound by something small many times to form
will find and take a pic

this copper spoon was found within maybe ten yards from points and the 2 stones
was hand made - dont know if by an indian or colonists

Casper, even with the new photos I still see nothing that makes me believe this was ever altered by man to make it an artifact. Your other stone looks natural as well.

the first pic is a knapstone....used to break the stone into smaller flakes and then bone and smaller tools were used to pressure flake the edges and round it off.

You couldn't ever tell if that was used unless you put it under a microscope and see if the "worked" area actually was worked. I agree though looks like a net weight or the like. Then again it also looks like a rock.

actually i looked at the first pics again that does seem to be a hammerstone and taking into account it was found in a productive field. First thing I do if I find a pc like that is to determine if there are more of the same material. If not I assume its a "carried to site" pc. to meet a specific task ie hammering or etc. That doesn't mean though that if there is a lot of the same materials that they didn't use what was laying around. But it would help make better assumptions on the pc in q.
