DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU

I'm like digging square nails and pulltabs one after another.

Each time I dig very carefully because when the signal is TAB it can be a piece of jewelry.

I get this TAB signal and I'm tired and ready to quit. I dig this plug and decide to just chop that stinkin tab out. So I'm like whacking away and I hear this tink sound like glass breaking. I then see this heart. :'(

Always treat every dig like you knew it was a gold coin. :'(

Badger - did you notice that the ring on that pendant is soldered ? Quite likely the chain it was on broke and is in the neighborhood as well...

Re: DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU

the heart, is that glass or silver that chiped???? just curious

Re: DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU

chong2mry the heart was glass or quartz I'd guess.

diggemall I noticed the soldered link but so far I haven't found any chain.

I went back out there this morning and dug a lot of square nails.

Re: DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU

Sorry to hear you damaged it more with the pounding. Still a nice find.

I dang near bent a colonial copper in half digging in frozen ground. I was able to straighten it in a vise with blocks of wood but it still was in bad shape when I got done :(

WOW! That must of been really hard to take, Tim!

People who don't love our hobby don't understand how much our finds mean to us.

I don't know about you Tim but it seems to me that the BIG find shows when I least expect it. Like when I'm hunting a site I don't like very well or when I'm all pooped out and want to call it a day.

We always have to be careful.

easier said than done my friend!! ;) as much as i try not to get sloppy, at the end of a trash ridden day, i catch myself poking and slashing all over the place! i really need to work on that. ::)

Re: DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU

:'( I've heard that familiar sound. Except it was a battle cap on a partially broken bottle. I was very lucky I wasn't cut beings though I stuck my fingers in the hole to do a little probing. Been wearing leather gloves ever since.....HH

Are you ready for some tough love ?

When you start to get tired from the constant attention to your machine ; SHUT IT OFF AND WALK AWAY !

It's like art / You have to know when to stop .

Badge,

Congrats on the pendant find. Know how you feel.

I recently found a copper piece bout 6" deep, it was bout 1" diameter and went down about another 12" deep it was verticle in the ground. I kept digging around it going deeper, I decided to give it a pull to break it lose, thats when I broke off the base, Turns out to be an old candle holder, the base was iron and the shaft was copper, the base was gone pretty much, but would have been nice to look at intact anyway. It's easy to lose patience after a long day, sometimes it just happens.

Good story for all,

Smartin

Bummer! I had one of those a few years ago dug at an early American colonial site. Mine was soild brass so it was strong. I sold it on ebay and the buyer loved me for it.
