DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU

I'm like digging square nails and pulltabs one after another.

Each time I dig very carefully because when the signal is TAB it can be a piece of jewelry.

I get this TAB signal and I'm tired and ready to quit. I dig this plug and decide to just chop that stinkin tab out. So I'm like whacking away and I hear this tink sound like glass breaking. I then see this heart. :'(

Always treat every dig like you knew it was a gold coin. :'(

Re: DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU

I'll bet something similar has happened to all of us at one time or another.

When I'm hunting areas where it seems like all I'm pulling up is junk over and over, or the ground is super hard, or there's too many stones or roots to dig through I know I have to remind myself a few times every hour that I need to "slow down" and be more patient cause I just know what my luck is like and the time I actually uncover something really valuable will be the time I accidentally scratch, chip, break etc... the item because I'm in a hurry or annoyed :(.

It's still a pretty nice looking pendant and now you have an image in your mind to focus on every time you feel yourself rushing or being less than careful when you're digging.

I suppose that's the only silver lining to it.

That sucks Badger

Did you notice - the 'mounting ring' on that pendant is soldered - likely means the chain it was on broke and might be in the area too.......,

Yes, I noticed the solder. I worked the area but didn't find it yet.

Also, thanks for your comment Cubfan64.

I put a nice scratch on a 1910 dime I found not long ago because I was careless.

Oh ya, been there my friend,
sorry it happened to you this time.
Nice find anyhow.

20 years ago while searching a pinic area at a beach under a tree, I plunged my knife blade right into the center gouging the face of a 1921S silver dollar that was in near mint condition (before me...lol) dang tree roots. But it was still a nice find and even a better lesson.

Now go get some gold my friend!

Smiles!

Ouch! That hurts. Been there though and probably used the same wording. I call it the Sailor's Lament cause it sounds like something a sailor would say. ;)

I dang near bent a colonial copper in half digging in frozen ground. I was able to straighten it in a vise with blocks of wood but it still was in bad shape when I got done :(

Re: DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU

My buddy was careless while digging a "Dollar" reading and ended up scratching a line down the whole reverse of an 1842 Seated dollar. Oh, and Kev "decked" a nice looking 1876-S Seated Half. So, be careful!
