I've put in 3 hardcore days of diggin' before this storm hits tonight and tomorrow and it's paid off! Found the 1871 shield nickel, spencer bullet, brass buckle and bale seal on the first day to get things started. Second day I had a double silver day with a 1907 barber dime and a beautiful silver thimble along with a couple CW bullets, some lead and a nice fuse!! Today a buddy and I hit an early site that dates from mid 1700's with activity on through the 1800's. I ended up with 15 colonial and 1800's style buttons, a nice 1859 indian head, a beautiful and nearly perfect 1864 2 cent piece and other neat odds and ends. The GR Patent thing is cool and the one piece has an eagle on it with "J&M" underneath, anyone know anything about those? I guess I got my fix in before this big snow storm. Until then thanks for looking and HH!

You found some nice things! The Barber and the two cent piece are beautiful. However the indian cent is not an 1859, or else it wouldn't have the shield on the top of the reverse. Make sure it is not an 1869, or else that could be about a $25 coin.

Yeah after looking it looks like an 1861. Looked like a 5 out in the field.

Very nice haul, love the coins!
This is what keeps me going seeing these finds.

Awesome finds once again.
Love all those Civil War pieces , esp the Fuse..
The Barber looks to be in great shape (any time I can dig a Barber Style Coin In Fine+ cond, is a Good thing, esp, one of the Scarcer Dates & O,S OR D mint marks).
The 2 cent piece is beautiful as well ,(in is's design, MY OPINION) & yours has a great patina and could not have come up much nicer.--I purchased one of it's brethren last week. (Def, would rather have dug one tho)
You likely already know : but there was a large Motto type And a small Motto type that year with the Small Motto type being worth much more than the LM type. & Would be Banner material especially in the condition yours is in.
Great thimble ,Indian etc.
I gotta get out of the house. LOL

Umm, guys. I beleive that is the rare small motto variety on the 1864 two-cent. In that condition, it is a $300-$400 coin easily, cosidering the Third Party Graders will consider it "environmentally damaged."

Yep. After a little cleaning it certainly is the "small motto". It is damaged by "nature" but it is my best coin find as of yet.

Very nice indeed..

Awesome coins! Congrats on a small motto 2cent! Even your buttons are in great shape! Best of all you were able to get out and find it! Nice!

That fuse is an outstanding find too!

Congrats,

Buck
