Excellent 1800/79. I agree that it looks like S-196.

And a it's a beautiful coin.

Thanks Buckleboy, I am very excited about this Draped Bust coin with overlaid date!

Not bad at all.

That DB LC is sweet. I don't know of anyone who has ever dug one in my area.

I've never seen anyone dig one either, somehow this one ended up under my coil. A Vermont Copper was pulled from the same site, same day. 2 elusive coins plucked from a nook up in New England.

That's exactly what I thought but wanted better pics before I said anything! but I can't find a 1800/99 to compare...

Sorry Sniffy but to my knowledge there is no 1800/99. The 8 is over 7 and the first 0 is over 9...that makes it an 1800/79, the best I can tell. There is a variety that is 1800/1798 but I can not make out an 8 beneath the last 0.

The cropped image below is from a current eBay auction for this same overdate. Compare it to yours.

1800 79/80 for sure. I plucked one from the ground a few weeks ago too! Very nice Large Cent!

Awesome, I was so excited when I cleaned it and found that it was an overlay. Can't wait to get back out and find more like it. I really want another state copper.

I've never tried Electrolisis on anything, I have several relics that would make good candidates. How do I go about making a homemade electrolisis kit?
