DRAPED BUST LC & TINY BATWING BUCKLE

got out for a bit today and hit a few holes with Gary.he's been to these sites before but,we wanted to give it another shot.
had a decent day.a draped bust large cent(my 18th copper on the year.1803 i think) the tiniest batwing buckle i have ever dug.a bridle rosette,a lead musketball,a lead bag seal, a old brass & iron padlock & a broken pair of old spectacles.
Gary got a few flat buttons.

Re: DRAPED BUST LC & TINY BATWING BUCKLE

Interesting, I thought these were IDed as late 18th C (the Batwing that is)? All the finds point to 19th C which is what I would have expected :icon_thumright:

The button is nice :icon_thumright:

Re: DRAPED BUST LC & TINY BATWING BUCKLE

nice finds dave! i look at that well pic and it makes me think how did they make those in the old days? dig a huge wide hole and start lining with stone and back filling? or they must of used a tree as some type of auger. i dont know why im thinking of this now but do you have any answers on that one? willy

Love that little batwiing buckle. What is the item with the square hole? I have found a couple of them and were told they might be saddle conchos, but I am not sure of that ID.

Awesome Post!
We got a lot of those open wells up here, I don't know how they'd go about diggin one of those back in the day, good reminder of how easy we have it

Droolin over that cast buckle

Nice old Cent!
Beeeautiful Rosette.
Are both the other round items buttons?
Love anything with stars, especially little thin rayed ones

the square hole is for what :icon_scratch:

What a crock :laughing9:

You got the best part of that one!
Superb Digs! Congrats

funny you ask that.i often wonder myself.i'm thinking they opened it larger and backfilled.no way a guy can be down there on a rope and have a bucket of dirt pass by him attached to a rope unless he was anorexic :laughing9:
