Finally got permission to hunt a 1900 Victorian home from a worker remodeling the place.Everything i dug was just clad and it was getting to hot to hot for clad.Went around the backyard and nothing but one asian coin.Going back to the front i got a hit around a penny. After digging a 7 inch hole out pops a 1905 IH :o.I heard a voice that said its mine i own the place.Well it finally happened to me.Not only did he take the IH but warned me that this house is a Historical Place. That IH would be only my second .I now know how others feel when you find the perfect site but come away with nothing :'( AA

The greedy guy may have had his rights but that was very low life of him >:( If he wanted the IH he should have been detecting !!!

Its ok guys i went mding at the WW2 Army Air Base here today. I found a small area that might have been their dump and found some collar buttons. Some have U.S. some have 13 stars and one with an eagle.I also found three wheaties 1941,1935, and 1911 ;D.Thats not the best part though i was getting something to drink at a store and a line of Army Air Guard trucks were fueling up.Just for the heck of it i walked up and gave them each a button and told them thanks for their service.Thats how i like to give away my finds ;D AA

nothing like a find lifting your spirits, and then someone dashing all hopes,i agree with everyone else that sucks sorry AA

The last time that happened to me, I told the guy he could have it and threw it as far as I could, then told him to go buy his own metal detector and find it again. He about freaked. I walked away with his jaw sitting on the ground. HH...Jesse.

Very nicely done! I think I would have tried being a little more slick...reach into the pocket and pull out the clad while at the same time leaving the IH in the pocket..."Well then you are going to want the rest of these too..." Then thrown them!!!
Again, very nicely done! I will have to remember that one!

Maybe the Building Commission should pay a visit to make sure everything is up to code on this guy's place ;)

Not to mention the Local, County, and State Historical societies to make sure he isn't destroying a historical home he shouldn't be updating. Where are those b@$^@rds when you need them?

Ouch !!!! sorry to hear about your bad luck. I find alot of people to be rather harsh about metal detectors. I myself just lost a great hunting spot, and will find more for sure. I have just started hunting the places I would hit last first, get them out of the way lol. L8R

howlow

how did he know it was an ih? I would have dug it and said "just another penny"

I said it out loud a IH cool stupid me

We should come up with a WWOOOOHHOOOOO suppressor so we wont draw attention to ourselves in those times of bliss.Similar to the cough suppressor for deer hunting.

The Hoot & Holler Great Find Wailer

lol

I have to laugh at some of the responses here.

At least I know what to do now if I ever find something, and am accosted very rudely by someone who claims that it is rightfully theirs.

:D

You got that right ;) AA

I had permission for an old house in town.. 1700s old.. found a bunch of good stuff.. IHs, Large cents, a nickel 3 cent piece and the best.. was a 1800s political button from Zachary Taylor.. well.. about 10 years after I dug the stuff I was talking to the Son of the woman who gave me permission. I had even shown everything I found to her when I was there. I told him all the stuff I found in the yard. He proceeded to go talk to my Father and tell him he thought that I should give every thing to him.. that since the house was his now the stuff belong to him!! He had been well over 10 years.. maybe close to 12. He is a nice guy and all but I was really shocked about that one.

and if you had of told him to go find it himself after you chucked it away he could have pressed Trespassing charges against you.

Desertfox

Not true. He wasn't there illegally, the owner knew he was there, he was following him around LOL. So he couldn't have pressed charges at that point. The owner could have asked him to leave after the chucking of the penny and at that point he must leave or face charges.

Hard lesson AA. Always talk to the owner never a worker. The guy was a jerk for the way he handled it though and if you had of told him to go find it himself after you chucked it away he could have pressed Trespassing charges against you. Just not worth the hassel. Another IH will come your way soon. HH

Desertfox
Don't think he could have done that...not until HE told you to get off the property..AA was doing what he thought was right at the time...But then again..laws are different on trespassing in each state. AA...I hope you find 20 more for that one loss..HH

The California Trespassing Law says that the landowner's written permission is to be in position to be legally on private property. So, only the property owner or his agent can give written permission.

On the other, the Law also says that the said property has to be posted legally, and that you have to be asked to leave before you are considered a Trespasser. Go figure.
