Just started hunting a 1748 house with a few hundred acres.. dug one eagle button, 6 or 7 flat/pewter buttons, a V nic, a silver quarter and right as I was leaving I decided to walk the field a bit. The grass is really tall so I put the 12" coil on and 3 minutes into the field dug a Eagle Plate just a couple inches in the ground!!! Hunted a little bit longer.. nothing!! I will have to wait till the hay is cut...

Civil War Plate! Holy Moly!!! That's a "career item" for most of us. I resized your picture so that we can see everything better.

Very nice breast plate, I lived on 90 acres that was all used as confederate and union camps and still never found a plate. I had 5 trenches that were still waist to chest deep, a graveyard with 53 of the 57 graves dug and moved (holes still there). know exactly where the rebs camped, know exactly where the Union calvery stayed, and also the place that everyone had there leatherwork done. AND NOT ONE PLATE. sorry for the rant, Great plate.

Have you dug to the bottom of the trenches?? Just wondering how much fill has happened over the years?? There HAS to be a plate there someplace!!! Keep digging!!! The last 4 I have dug have been just pure random luck!! This one was a quick walk out in a filed on the outside chance I might find something since there was a camp across the road.. and bam,,, there it was... so.. keep swinging!!!

Wow, 1748, now that's old and some awesome finds. There has to be much more there. Happy hunting!

That's about as nice of a Breat Plate as anyone could hope for. Thanks for the photos  Are the iron attachments present on the back?

No... just the little iron bumps where they once were... :-( I still always hope for some arrows when I flip one over... would love to dig one of those!!!!

What is the oval shaped coin looking thing next to the Quarter? I found a similar object at a Civil War site in Georgia. There appears to be some engraving on mine but it is too faint to make out.

Great breast plate.

Awesome relics. If only I had the time and locations!, mostly time!

I fully understand that!!! I have two boys 6 and 10.. a little too demanding of a job, am on the Town Council and the President of a Historic Preservation Group. Makes it really rough to get out... but somehow I manage to find the time!! ;-)
