So I'm slowly but surely getting into coin roll hunting. Right now I simply just go to my bank and pick up $40 worth of halves and $20 in nickels. I usually do this once or twice a month. I search through them and place the into empty juice containers. I want to fill up 1 contain full of halves just to keep for the future then I plan to start dumping them. When I start dumping do I need to roll them up myself or could I just put them in a large container and take them into the bank? Also, when people talk about rolling coins themselves and spending them or turning them into banks, how do the places accepting them know that there's the correct amount of $ in each roll. Can't you usually tell if the roll has been wrapped by an individual.

It all depends on the bank. 1 of my banks has a customer coin counter, 1 of my banks will take them unrolled and run them through their coin counter and 1 of my banks will only take them rolled.

It's all up to the bank that you cash them in to.

You can always spend them at stores.

Oh ya, Welcome to the ADDICTION :icon_thumright:

One bank that where I dump halves, weighs each roll!
I only dump where I have an account, find out first how your bank(s) like to handle coins.

Cool, thanks for the responses!

I told me wife the other week that I was going to pick up $500 worth of halves and she looked at me like I was crazy... She understands that there's no way to lose money on this, she just simply thinks it's nuts ???

^ My better half is the same way.

I stopped talking about my coin roll hunting with friend/family. My kids are interested, but my wife and the rest of the world thinks it is crazy. Even if I talk about all the cheap silver I have found (17oz in 2 months), I'm looked at like a freak!
