We got out on Sunday (9/26) to the farm that gave us 5 coppers last week. We decided to focus on a different area of the field and with nothing to show for in the first 10 minutes, I decided to survey the land. I headed out to the small rise in the field and started to get some small iron signals. Not long after, I got a nice copper signal and was thrilled to see a green disc in the hole.
It turned out to be a corroded, but perfectly identifiable Draped Bust large cent.
We all decided to focus in this area, but did not get anything else. Kyle did get a 1700s square nail in the area, so something was there a long time ago.
The farmer then pulled up next to the field and walked out to us. I showed him my recently dug copper and once I told him that it dated to 1796-1807, he stated, "Wow!" He then proceeded to tell us the other fields he owned in the vicinity. We got even more excited each time he told us, "I own that field, too." The future looks bright on this farm of about 600 acres.
This coming weekend is going to be cooler, so we will rack and stack a new site.
Keep the passion high!
