We got out on Sunday (9/26) to the farm that gave us 5 coppers last week. We decided to focus on a different area of the field and with nothing to show for in the first 10 minutes, I decided to survey the land. I headed out to the small rise in the field and started to get some small iron signals. Not long after, I got a nice copper signal and was thrilled to see a green disc in the hole. :hello2: It turned out to be a corroded, but perfectly identifiable Draped Bust large cent.

We all decided to focus in this area, but did not get anything else. Kyle did get a 1700s square nail in the area, so something was there a long time ago.

The farmer then pulled up next to the field and walked out to us. I showed him my recently dug copper and once I told him that it dated to 1796-1807, he stated, "Wow!" He then proceeded to tell us the other fields he owned in the vicinity. We got even more excited each time he told us, "I own that field, too." The future looks bright on this farm of about 600 acres.

This coming weekend is going to be cooler, so we will rack and stack a new site.

Keep the passion high!

Kirk :hello:

Thanks, Pete, for the reply. I asked the farmer when he was going to harvest the corn where we found 5 coppers two weeks ago and he said, "Probably 2 weeks." We should have another bonanza there once he cuts it down. I hope all is well in the Low Country.

Gotta love it when Mr Greenjeans says I own ALL OF THIS LAND , and I can show ya where there were old colonial homes. Heck we've been huntin here since I was a youngster so I know where all the cellar holes are !

Awesome pix of the Penn. landscape !

Hello, my fellow Pennsylvanian, good luck to you on the PA frontier this fall. Bedford county ain't going to stop giving up those coppers anytime in our generation. :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumright:

You are finally racking and stacking the coppers. This farm was a busy place since circa 1799! :headbang:

Let's do it again next weekend! We are hot now and let's continue to be until Winter arrives.

I agree with this farm being busy around the 1790s. That is our era though for Colonial finds and possibly a Liberty Cap copper. :icon_thumleft:

It is going to be awesome this weekend. I can see us swinging on the frontier with a cool breeze hitting our faces. :headbang:

NorthCentral Pa sure has some beautiful countryside! I am sure you guys will be doing alright on your next hunt at this site. Its been years since I have hunted a field like that and it sure looks like easy hunting conditions compared to the brushy areas I have been hitting the past few years. Good luck for you all this Fall.

It is nice to hear from you, Don. We do have some great scenery to enjoy in our area of PA. It is really peaceful in the fields. Even to this day and year, it still feels like we are on the frontier. The land has not changed much since the 1700s.
