Congratulations, you have found a 1785-1788 Connecticut State Copper, WTG.

Don

It's no doubt a 1787 Conneticut copper, way to go....Kane23

Thats awesome! If you really want to clean the coin here is some ways that this one guy cleans coins on our forum and they turn out spectacular!

I use limeaway gel on nickles.
Baking soda and water on silver.
The 3 corroded silver I actually had to use a little electrolysis first.

Congrats Ravenguide on a NICE Connecticut coppa !

9 times outta 10 when ya dig a coppa upstate Ny its gonna be a King George or Lg Cent.

State coins are rarer
Great find !!

D.

Be careful!
Don't attempt cleaning that coin!
It may be valuable; check with a local reputable coin dealer and let him advise you.

Great find!

Thank you all for assisting me in this, I really do not know how you guys figure these things out!
Greg

On the right (in yellow) you can see where it says C O N N E C. On the left (in red) you can see where it says A U C T O R I. I think I can even see the date (1787) on the bottom of the first picture.

AWSOME.......I got a 1787 Conn copper too! Be careful......It could be a RARE one. Mine is a M-33-1-z-19 A rarity of 5 which means about 30-40 of mine exist. Some of these can be ULTRA RARE so consult one of the experts on here (Don is good) before you try to clean it! GREAT FIND!

nice find! its always fun to dig a colonial copper coin! i agree with the others, most definitely a Connecticut copper.
