this is this weeks take....It has been so exciting! I won't kiss and tell too much, but we are having fun.
Note on the 1820 dime that there is a double die on the reverse. Especially notable on the "M" in america, but also on the left of the shield, and the second "S" in states. It's also visible after the "D" in united but not so visible in the scan. Any info on early double dies? I cant find any info or value. It's a really nice coin and I am excited to find it after the beat up coppers:)
The coins/buttons are:
button-some silver(?) plating 1830 large cent 1805 spanish carolus IIII 1784 spanish carolus III
1820 bust dime 1818 large cent 1853 large cent 1819 large cent
Two small Gilt style buttons 1816-35 matron head large cent(no date)

PCGS doesn't even list any double die variety. I know that there are many anomalies in early american coinage, but is the double die common?

One hell of an outing, buddy! My goal is to find a Spanish silver coin this year. Literally, one could say that I found a Spanish 2-Reale. But, all of the features are worn off, with only a "CM Berry Saloon" slogan stamped on it.

I am going to be hunting an old fort site this fall. I already found a Connecticut copper there this year, so I am hoping for some old silver.

Does not suprise me that you found Spanish coinage there. Savannah was a very busy seaport beginning in the early to mid 1700s, but then if you are from there, you know all about that already lol.

You found some amazing stuff.

Keep up the good work!
;)

Awesome finds, I like the hole in the reale, made with a square nail! Spent some time around Savannah GA when I was in the military, nice area. HH, Mike

Nice finds Lyman.I should of looked you up when I was in town ,it looks like! :) Keep at it and good luck.I found a large cent in bad condition along with a 3 ringer and some cannister shot,a few wheats and a couple mercs. ,when I was up that way a couple of weeks ago.Didn't go into the downtown historic squares to detect anywhere though,it was fun nonetheless.

wow - now there's some righteous finds! super!

Now that looks like a Doubled Die Reverse. Check with Ken Potter
at Koinpro.com. For about $3.50+Postage(a few bucks on insurance wouldn't hurt)
he will professionally give you all info you need.
I'm not trying to peddle nuttin, check out his web site and get free info on gobs
of doubles he has listed. Scroll down to Educational Coin Gallery.
I know of some good buyers I've sold to also.
