I haven't bought or sold anything on ebay for a long time. We are talking several years, and back when I was still doing some buying and selling, a credit card of mine got hacked, and then replaced by the card company. I canceled the card with everyone, including Amazon, no problem. I tried to cancel the card with ebay, and in their wisdom, ebay wouldn't let me remove the old card that's no good. So I decided if that's how they want to be I'd just let it go. What the heck, the card was no good, and at the time if they would have let me remove the bad one, I would have replaced it, Like I said, I haven't bought or sold anything, so there has been no kick back on the bad card. Well now, the expiration date on the bad card is up, and I'm being contacted that I have to renew the card. Just off hand, I can't think of why I should do that. It's been a long time, and I haven't missed them a bit. Back in the beginning ebay was different, very reasonable rates, and I had great feedback with one negative. Why am I writing this? Don't know, just had to rant I guess. Rant over, carry on.

Don't use it? Forget it

I rarely use eBay, but my card info is through PayPal. It would probably hurt me to quit them altogether more than it would you, and I really wouldn't miss eBay much. So don't fret over it. Is their loss! :occasion14:

I started messing around on Ebay as a seller in 1999 and for the exact reasons you've stated, high comissions, etc. I have quit selling. Buttt.. I still find it useful for buying at times. Especially automotive parts. Example: a couple weeks ago I needed a sensor for my Buick. Cheapest I could find it locally after checking all the usual auto parts sources was $49.95 plus 9.75% Tennessee sales tax. Got the very same part off Ebay for 7 bucks with free shipping and no tax. This is why I stay current.

I occasionally buy or sell something, I just like what I dig.....

This is now off topic, sorry Bosn.

If you had gone to a repair shop that part would have cost you a min of $100

I don't work on my cars anymore. I needed back brakes done with new drums. (these were factory brakes, 1st time ever needed, but had the drums turned a few times. 100,000 miles) So I went to a local tire/brake shop with good reputation. He quoted me a price for parts, more than I wanted to spend, but I would have to wait an hour for parts to come. I waited in the lobby for 30 min and decided to walk to the closest NAPA store (100 feet north) to see what I could get the parts for. SHOCK! NAPA with a senior citizen discount was 60% cheaper. I went back to the brake shop and asked if I could furnish my own parts (& I saw a NAPA truck drive up and put boxes next to my car) The brake shop salesman said "NO for safety reasons" BS! he is a liar he should have said we want to make more than 200% profit on you. So I said put the tires back on I am going some place else. He went out and told NAPA not to leave the parts. I quietly told the driver to leave them up front.

10 min later I drove to NAPA and bought the same parts that just came back. I now went across the street to a different shop and they were glad to use brand new NAPA parts.

Now if I shopped on line (I have used rockauto.com) I probably could have saved even more.

I too, would let it go but email eBay and let them know. Buying and selling on eBay is a stresser for me. I'm stressed when I sell an item (waiting for FB) and I get stressed waiting for an item to see if it's as advertised.
When I sell an item here on TNet it has been 100% stress free and I realize a better profit without all the fees.
Although limited usually to treasure related items.
Garage sales are so much easier cause you cut out the hipster on eBay! Lol!

Sounds like you are making a mountain from a molehill. I fail to see how you were harmed or even inconvenienced in this situation (or lack thereof).

I loved ebay, until one day a purchase I made didn't go through.
I called them, and they said I need to be verified. Give us your bank account number, we will put in a few cents, then we will know who are you.
I asked them why? Ebay policy. What? yes, after you buy $2,000 you must be verified.
How much have I bought? 10 yrs, 2,000 transactions, over $10,000 total.
So.....you should have mentioned this years ago? New ebay policy.
2,000 purchases, never a problem,.....but you don't know who I am ??!
Yes sir, ebay policy.
Goodbye ebay, hello Amazon.

I tried eBay years ago.

I placed a bid, and then a computer automatically and immediately outbid me.

Tried another bid. Again, immediately outbid by a computer again... and a third time.

Never went back. This wasn't an auction- it was a sham to keep me up bidding.

If there was a no lower than price, start the auction at that amount, or don't call it an auction. (I understand the reserve, but if you are not starting at the reserve price, it's BS)

So, I'll occasionally make an eBay purchase, but it doesn't taste very good.

Amazon. Simple, listed price, fast service, free shipping.

Had someone else placed a bid before you?? If so, then they had the opportunity to input their highest bid, and the "eBay computer" would increase their bid automatically up to the amount they set. I've done that a few times. Sometimes I get outbid, but sometimes I don't. Once, I was even the only bidder. In either instance, it's not that the system is "bidding you up" - it's that someone else had already set in a price higher than what you had bid at that point.

...To clarify that a little ore, I can place a low bid, but also input the maximum amount I'm willing to bid. Then, I never have to check the bidding again, as either I will win or I won't. The computer will increase my bid incrementally, but only UP TO my highest bid. However, you won't pay your highest bid amount if nobody else bids up that high. ...Sorry, I feel like my words aren't getting out very clear right now. Been a weird day!

Clear as mud!

But then I understood beforehand what that bid process is. I have used it and bidders on my products use it too.

Ebay is getting to be a pain. Most of the better items are now buy it now's.

I don't care much for the eBay either. Mostly because they still use paypal instead of a real credit system. It's not more secure and is loads easier to scam with on their still even nowadays. No thank you.:stickynote:

I LOVE EBAY!!! I BOUGHT $677 OF GOLD THAT TURNED OUT TO BE FAKE AND EBAY TOOK MY WORD AND GAVE ME MY MONEY BACK. DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO SEND BACK THE FAKE STUFF TO SELLER. I RESPECT THAT KIND OF BUSINESS.

Unless your a seller, and the buyer claims "fake" or "not as described"....and it's real or exactly as described....That sucks!:laughing7: I have won those also as a seller. But it took a little bit of a fight.
