EE's February thread, Silver.... will you be my Valentine?

6 Boxes of halves due this Friday, possibly some extra halves out of a pick up banks machine.

Auction on Friday shows some silver and gold jewelry, possibly a sterling platter, with tea/cream and salt pepper shakers, likely plated though and it seems a couple coins that I could not make out.

Auction on Saturday has 9 halves, all 40% that I will go for plus some misc rings etc that could or could not pan out. I figure a 30 miles drive out there wont be too bad.

Good luck EE, cleaver February thread name, lol. HH, Maverick.

Well, I went and picked up all the boxes I could on Friday, my first pick up netted me 3 boxes.

Box 1: Skunk
Box 2: Skunk
Box 3: Skunk

1 roll of CWR Quarters: Skunk

Dumped those, went to the second pick up bank to grab 3 more boxes and...... the vault manager had to leave early on emergency and forgot to sell them to another teller so I have to go back up there 60 mile round trip to get them. I am currently sitting at a 9 box skunk streak, 11 boxes is my current record.

On a side note, auction last night did me well. Numbers in oz is total sivler/gold weight of item

12k 1/20th gold filled eye glasses 16.9 grams, paid $5 for the lot, .0136 oz - $22.68

Picked up a lot of plated flatware with some sterling mixes in for $25

Sterling spoon, very ornate. 0.9279 oz - $29.56

Gorham Sterling Spoon. 0.9665 oz - $30.79

For $7 I got a Engagement/Wedding set made of sterling 0.2439 oz - $7.77

For $1 I got a sterling braided necklace, 0.2498 oz - $7.96

As for gold, I picked up two Black Hills gold Heart necklace charms for $10 ea

14k Black Gold Charm, 0.0206 - $34.38

10k Black Gold Charm, 0.0188 - $31.30

Total spent - $58.00
Total worth - $164.44
Profit - $106.44

So, in a couple hours I head out to get my last 3 boxes of the week, search, dump those and head off to at least 1 more auction.

I also have some flatware that I think might be silver not listed, I think its time to get a acid tester.

Nice job there EE, $106.00 profit is pretty sweet! Good luck with your 3 boxes ( hopfully better than mine) and todays auction! HH, Maverick.

Do the spoons have collector value? I'd check on that before scrapping.

I dont scrap anything with collector value, only things that would be considered no better than scrap. I ill post some pictures of the ornate spoon, its well done, I could get a pretty penny for it from the right person. I need to do some research on it sometime this week. I will post some pictures as well shortly

As for the auction tonight, It sort of sucked. I fell asleep at noon, woke at 3pm and was out of the house by 3:15 for the auction at 4. I arrived 5 minutes before it started and took some quick looks. Figured out the preliminary prices for some stuff and was able to sneak in a couple chances to weigh some items. I think I broke about even, I have not priced it all yet, will do so below. I spent $22 total

First lot was a lot of coins for $13

1944 Filipino 10 Centavo (0.0482)
1944 Canadian Dime (0.0600)
1943 Canadian Quarter (0.1500)
1952 Canadian Quarter (0.1500)
1 cent 1905 Netherlands
handful of Steel Cents, one in XF condition, the rest crap

Second piece was what I believe to be a Sterling Bracelet that says Silver 925 for $9, weighs out to .5175 ozt worth of silver. I will get it checked out as soon as I get my acid testing stuff. If its not sterling, I am sure I could sell it to break even.

Did my three boxes of halves this morning.

Box 1: 3/40%
Box 2: Skunked
Box 3: Skunked
$210 in CWR Dimes - Skunked

So.. for the month so far

Hey EE, looks like you are ahead of the game so far, maybe next weeks auction will have some better deals for you, good luck with you boxes on Wednesday! HH, Maverick.

It appears I am ahead of the game but the reality is, I am falling behind the game.

I started 2013 ahead of the game by 22.98 oz

I ended Jan only 12.60 oz ahead

I am currently ahead a third of an ounce but I will for sure be behind the game really soon if things dont pick up. I had hoped I had a good cushion for the start of the year but its disappearing fast. Lots could chance though, these next 4 months were fantastic for me last year but I know I have a large volume searcher dumping into my inventory because I run into more and more of his marked coins. I am also coming across a metric butt load of NFIC halves. Someone is breaking up mint sets like crazy.

A few weeks back i was getting boxes with a ton of the nifc's too, I found it strange to start having so many popping up, now they are still popping up in some of my boxes, but not as many as before. I forgot you started out a little ahead this year, CRHing is allways a surprize though, you get a dream box this year and leap ahead again! HH, Maverick.

1944 Filipino 10 Centavo (0.0482)- $1.75 in VF, $2 in XF, worth melt in worse conditions
1944 Canadian Dime (0.0600)- worth melt
1943 Canadian Quarter (0.1500)- worth melt
1952 Canadian Quarter (0.1500)- worth melt
1 cent 1905 Netherlands- $1 in F, $2 in VF, and $3 in XF

Yeah, the coins are not worth more than melt, I grabbed them because well.. they were silver.

Well, I did hit a little jack pot today out on the lake.

New personal best, 25 pound blue cat and the year has just started.

Still waiting on my first dream box.

Me too, I've come close, but since everyone say "Technically a 100+" is a Dream box, I haven't had one either. The search goes on though! Good luck this week EE! HH, Maverick.

still enjoying the posts E. I'm quite jealous of all the auctions in your area. There really isn't anything other than estate auctions and furniture auctions. the prices are totally off the charts on the few occasions an estate lists any type of silverware, jewelry, or coins. thanks for continuing to post the fun finds!!

I have not even been remotely close to a dream box, 28 coins is the most I have ever found in one box. 12-40% and 16-90%.

You think its busy now, wait until it warms up, its off the hook with upwards of 5 per weekend. It will get to the point that I will have to decide to go fish or auction, I will most likely have to start fishing at night.

This Friday has jewelery and at least 1 gold ring, a 10k ring with a pearl in it.

Just a question on flat ware, if its marked sterling, is the blade of the knife also sterling, or possibly brass?

Usually its steel, stainless. Use a magnet, if it sticks, its steel. Sometimes the blade could be sterling as well, such as smaller knives.

Got my two half boxes.

Box 1: Skunked
Box 2: 1/40% - 1/1964

Friday is 5 more boxes of halves.

As for Fridays auction.. Looks to be a good one for me. What I spied with my trained eye was at least 6 sterling knives and one spoon. I would approximate 4.1 oz of silver from those. Perhaps they have more plated with sterling mixed in? Not sure but this is going to take a hit on my fish finder fund lol.

Also listed is a 10k ring with a pearl and I spied some other possible sterling and gold items mixed in so it should be an interesting evening. Hopefully not too late though as I want to go fishing in the morning on Saturday before the storms roll in.
