EE's February thread, Silver.... will you be my Valentine?

6 Boxes of halves due this Friday, possibly some extra halves out of a pick up banks machine.

Auction on Friday shows some silver and gold jewelry, possibly a sterling platter, with tea/cream and salt pepper shakers, likely plated though and it seems a couple coins that I could not make out.

Auction on Saturday has 9 halves, all 40% that I will go for plus some misc rings etc that could or could not pan out. I figure a 30 miles drive out there wont be too bad.

still enjoying the posts E. I'm quite jealous of all the auctions in your area. There really isn't anything other than estate auctions and furniture auctions. the prices are totally off the charts on the few occasions an estate lists any type of silverware, jewelry, or coins. thanks for continuing to post the fun finds!!

Hey Hokie, I'm right there with ya, I love reading EE's posts! I love the auction finds and stories! Thanks EE for sharing with us, I really enjoy it, HH, Maverick.

Well, I hope to have a good story Friday night. Last auction with knives, I got them for $3 ea so I wont complain if that is the case again. The two knives came out to 1.1242 oz. I dont want to get too ahead of my self, still 2 days and a auction away from knowing if I will get anything.. hope I do though.

So.. some pictures of the next action to entertain you with. This is just what I can see from photos, no digging through boxes or anything else. Who know what else could be there.

Well, those are ones that peaked my interest this morning before I left for work. I am sure some wont pan out and some I didnt point out will. Not everything at the auction were photographed so there might be surprises for me.

Auction was a bust. The knives are plated, one spoon might be silver, all it had were hallmarks but I was not going to stick around since I need to charge my boat so I can try my luck on the lake for another Personal Best Blue Cat. The 10k ring had maybe $15 worth of gold in it and little old ladies were looking at it, it will go for multiples over melt.

So onto my CRH

Box 1: Skunked
Box 2: Skunked

2 rolls CW Nickels: Skunked
3 Rolls CW Dimes: Skunked
4 Rolls CW Quarters: Skunked

Went to dump the boxes, The only teller I use there ran my coin, came back $725.. she comes to me and asks, "Cool CRH guy, didnt you bring in an even $1000?" My reply was yes, she tells me it counted out $725. I say there must be a mistake and she agreed so she reran the coin, it came back lower the second time. She ran it again, it came back higher, $869. She asks what I want to do, I say give me the $869 and we will figure it out next week ( I was running late to my other bank pickup ).

Go to the next bank and grab my 3 boxes of halves.

Well, I just dropped $650 on a new fish finder with GPS and side scan/down imaging so it should make things a little easier for me to find the fish and the structure.

I was expecting things to pick up in the CRH area by now because of the holidays, last year and this year are complete opposites.

I still have 13 boxes left for the month.. things could change.

Oh yeah, almost forgot.

Talked with the tellers at one of my pick up banks. I asked them to hold any rolls of dimes and quarters they find with steel rims in them. I am bringing a rolls of brinks dimes with me with two Canadian dimes in it to show them what I am looking for and one roll of quarters with a Canadian quarter in it, since I mentioned to them I collect Canadian coins as well. :D Hope to cull some extra that way. I already take all the customer wraps each week and I find stuff from time to time so I know they dont search them.

I also asked the vending machine guy at work if he ever comes across any older coins. He says he does on occasion, I asked him if he saves them or not, he says no, he leaves them. I told him I would buy them off him if he was interested, he said he would hold them for me.

Now that's a good idea, they think they are getting rid of the Canadians ( which there will surly be some) and a good shot at Silver for you. When do you get to use the new fish\depth finder? HH, Maverick.

I pick up the finder on Saturday, I install it Saturday as well, in a nice mid 30 degree weather. I might take it out on Sunday, depending on how much cash I have on me. I completely tapped myself out of funds with property taxes, auctions and the finder. I have my CRH funds intact but my extra funds are depleted so I its going to be a bit tight for a couple weeks until my tax returns come in. I think I can swing the $10 or so in gas to get to the lake and back with little problems :D

Not sure if you are familiar with sonar but it has come a long way in the last few years.

Hey EE, good luck tonight! HH, Maverick.

Well, luck was not with me.

Went to do my first pick up, got my 3 boxes, 1 roll of CW nickels, 3 dimes and 1 quarter. Found out she forgot to order my halves for next week so I will be short 2 boxes next week.

CW Nickels x1 : Skunked
CW Dimes x 3 : 1 Rosie
CW Quarters x 1: Skunked

Box 1: 1/40%
Box 2: Skunked
Box 3: 2/40%

Dumped my halves at the CU and then went and dumped $1000 worth at another bank, the one that miscounted my halves by $131 last week. They had to send the bag off to get it counted so it will be another week before I get my cash, the teller kept apologizing and I kept reassuring her its fine, I was prepared for something like this to happen sometime.

Went and picked up my other 3 boxes for the week.

Box 1: Skunked
Box 2: Skunked
Box 3: 1/1964

Auction tonight was not for me. One ring but with a reserve. I went home to watch hockey and relax, tomorrow I pick up my new finder and install it for fishing on Sunday.

Tomorrow I dump $1000 in halves, pick up dimes and nickels, dump some more halves and maybe pick up some other loose coin while I am in town to pick up the finder.

Next week is only 5 boxes of halves now. I will update my monthly total tomorrow after the dims and nickels.

Hey EE, sorry the auction was a bust. I hate when they forget to order my boxes, I all ways think someone else is opening my good box up, lol. Good luck with the dimes! Still gonna be Mid 30's for fishin? Burr, to cold for me to fish. I bet the new equipment is going to make it a little more fun, that us one cool fish finder. HH, Maverick.

Today will be mid 30's for installing the finder. Tomorrows high will be around 58 but with winds around 13 mph from the south. Lucky for me I plan on fishing a narrow part of the lake so waves wont be a issue for me. In a wide area I could be over run by white cap waves.

I am hoping for better luck with dimes, yesterday was the first dime found in Feb and only my 4th in 401 rolls worth of CW dimes. I am averaging half a dime per box.

Not as bad as nickels, lol. 1 war nickel out of 189 CW rolls so far this year.

Dumped my halves, no dimes or nickels for me.

Hit two banks, dumped some halves at one, no CWR's and stopped at another bank and no halves there either.

Got my finder and installed it so hopefully I pull some treasure from the lake tomorrow and get some pictures of some fat fish.
