So after a gorgeous couple of days weeding the garden and clearing leaves… it was time to head back to the fields of dreams 😆 xx

What a day! The sun was shining and the fields had dried out beautifully! I THINK I found my first Gold….! No idea what it is… but it’s yellow… and that must mean it’s Gold! Also found an intact ring brooch AND a ring! For me that makes it the best day ever! 😍

Also buckles, musket ball, lead lump and decorative tiny bit of lead, bit of a crotal bell, complete thimble, 3 little hinges (?) a gorgeous old button, lots of other buttons, 2 Jettons, and 2 other unidentifiable coins.

Another amazing day doing what we love, out again tomorrow, but rain is forecast! xx

Nice hunt! Congrats!!! I think your gold piece is what's left of a ring. I think it's the top part of the ring & the band Y's off of each side of the top of the ring. Sweet hunt, thanks for sharing.

Well the detecting gods rewarded you for doing the garden penitence.
Congratulations on the piece of gold and the brooch.
What's the coin behind the two hammered in the last picture?
Added all up, a great day of play blossom.

Hi Blossom,

The gold piece you have is very interesting, I don‘t know whether it’s a trick of the light but there look to be two different colours there, could it be gilt on base metal/silver or two different gold alloys?

Either way the interlace decoration with marginal squares looks Anglo-Saxon to me, it could be the bezel of a ring as KSDirtfisher77 says or possibly the lower portion of a hooked tag with two (broken) hooks.

Either way, as it’s likely old enough and precious metal it should be reported and they should be able to give you an ID hopefully.

Great hunt, congratulation.

Heck of a good day in anyone’s book! I do think the gold piece is top portion of a ring.
What shovel is that you are using? I like the way the D-Handle is shaped.

I had a similar assessment, Saxon, maybe a broken clothes fastener. (not 100% sure) But it is potential Treasure & does require reporting to the FLO.
@blossom
I suggest, if you haven't already, getting all your ducks in a row. Make sure the owner see's it before handing in (it will disappear into the system for about 18-24months) & that you re-enforce your agreement at 50/50 for the possible pay out.
The Coroner will write to both parties & ask what the agreement was, so it helps if you both say the same thing.

You have 1 Jetton in-between 2 17th C Tokens. The one on the left might be able to be IDed.
