I'm new to the excalibur II 1000 had it for a few weeks now and I'm wondering if it's operating OK? I know it's suppose to null out going over iron but my excal seems to null out for a long time? I was using it in a park going some what slow with the coil sweep speed went over iron it nulled out kept it going at the same speed right over a pull tab laying right on top of the ground about six inches from the iron. It didn't pick up the pull tab? When the excal nulls am I suppose to stop the coil and wait for the threshold to return? Or should it be picking up nonferrous items mixed or in close to the iron? When I got home I ran a couple of air test with a gold ring and some bi metal coins containing iron. The unit seems to era on the nulling side of things. It would pick up the gold ring if it was in the right position and if they both (ring and steel coin ) were further away from the coil and the closer I got to the coil it would null out quicker. I'm wondering if I'm missing some targets by this. I've been using it in the water also sometimes I'd get quick tone right into a null or sometimes from a null to an adbrupt tone back to the threshold. Any advise???

I have been useing the Sovereign since 1992.......... So i know how they work........ Except yesterday took my sovereign out and it would null out and just go on & on nulling ..... So i would turn it off let it off for 4 or 5 seconds....... turn it back on and it was still nulling .......... could not get it to stop........ I put coins on the ground and it would not pick them up just kept nulling......... After moveing from spot to spot it just kept nulling.............After about 3 minutes or less it quit nulling but it seemed like forever..................... Then it would work ok but not for long then that dam null again...................... So on the way to Minelab in the morning........... Sorry i could not be any help but i had the same thing happen to me yesterday.....

That is not normal, it should retrun from the null fairly quickly, all 4 of mine do...... Just curious, how do you charge it, did it have a full charge? Excals will start acting really weird when the battery is close to running out....

Treasure Hunter is right about the Excal and Sov's acting funny when the batteries are not at a full charge. I would make sure it is the batteries before sending it in. I never use the Minelab charger anymore as it is a POS. I use a charger that shows lights telling you if it is charging or not and it shuts off at a full charge.
Ever Minelab Excal user should use this.

Sandman & Treasure H..... After you both said about batterys i checked my batterys again............. Brand new Duracell's........ And they were fine.............. BUT AS I WAS putting them back in i took notice that two of the battery connect points on the detector had a little brown circle on them........................... So I TOOK SOME SAND PAPER TO THEM................... And low and behold the Sovereign works like new again............... Those spots were so small but they were on the side were the plus side of the battery's made connection...................... SO ..DualFieldBandit... Like they said check your battery's and the connection's.............. Saved me from giving some money to UPS & Minelab....

Is that all you have to buy for the EXCAL II is the charger ? Or do you have to buy an adaptor and if so which one. Thanks Kevtec
