Woo Hoo~ Real treasure from the thrift store today. Was wandering through the local thrift store and picked up a vase that I could tell, by weight alone, was an older one. The bottom was covered by a price sticker so I peeled back a corner and was shocked to see the distinctive flame that's part of the mark of a highly collectible pottery maker, Rookwood. Antique store price on this vase is in the $200's, ebay maybe $100+, and this one was mine for $9.99.
The vase is dated XLIII, or 1943. The subject, as you see is sort of a western motif, very unusual for this pottery company which mostly did florals, abstract designs, or in its earlier days, beautiful painted pieces. The company operated from the 1900s through 1967.
