Exhausting Holiday fun

Yep more fishing, sunning and funning on Lake Erie!

I almost lost my pole as it decided to take a dive overboard. THEN the following day I "caught" a NICE cherrywood pole & reel in 30+ ft. of water. It's in perfect condition and will make for a grand new walleye pole! shoot, I forgot to snapped a pic of it...oh well next trip as I left it on the boat!

Headed out to Johnson's Isalnd, a civil war prison. Catawba Island for the Sunset gathering, a tall ship heading out of Put-in-Bay and of couse some yellow perch photos! Oh and one of Perry's Monument on South Bass Island (Put-in-Bay).

I find your post very interesting since I have never seen any of the great lakes. I imagine it's a lot like living near the seashore? What kind of fish are tkhose? They look like a variety of perch that we have here. Sounds like you had a great time. Ever metal detected on the one time prison island? Monty

Yes it's similiar to the seashore. lake Erie is the most shallow of the Great lakes so that's why there's so many islands. Here's a few more pics of a few other islands.

Thanks for posting those pictures vibes, same country, but it seems like a different world. Ok, due to my ignorance of the north, but it does seem different. In the second group of pictures, what are the "tropical" looking trees? And the trees in the monument picture are so tall! I didn't know Lake Erie had a lot of islands either, that's cool. All our lakes are impounded, thus no islands. The bagged up fish just makes me drool, Our "perch" are sunfish, our crappie have stripes like that, but are more round in form. Bass family I think. Not fishy tasting at all, either one, and I can't quit eating them once I start. Even cold the next the day!

When I had my boat I use to slay the white bass or sand bass as some call them. There was no limit so I always had a freezer full. All bass are in the perch family. Surprised me too but thanks to Biology I, I learned that! Guess all 4 years of college weren't a total loss? I am going to visit my sister-in-law soon and they have a big pond full of channel cat fish. Now they are a tasty treat as well. Thanks for sharing your trip. Monty

The tropical looking trees are on Johnson's Island ...around the perimeter of the quarry located in the interior of the island. Wiki offers a brief explanation of their formations. I'd put it in my own words but, I'm just too lazy tonight There's NO way I could MD there--UNLESS-- I bought land. I want to as we are looking to buy on Catawba, Port Clinton (The Walleye Capitol of the World) OR Marblehead...so ya never know! And I know some will say I can't detect even if I own my own land ...pffftttt...catch me

We have a fish fry every October and share our bounty with friends and family! You're invited!

My family has a long history connected to this area, so BootyBay...I am happy you enjoy the historic aspect of the area!

Monty...no chit? The "bass" family? figures...we always encounter the bass men as we taxi thru the channel.
