Looks like a drug store bottle that at one time had a paper label. Also, JMO if you let it sit out in the sun it will slowly turn purple. :icon_thumright: Early 1900s

It will not do it over night. Place it in the direct sunlight for a month or so. Look at the bottom where glass is at it's thickest and you might see a hint of purple. If that happens, keep it in the sun for a while and the rest of it will change too. Good luck.
 
It already has a little tint to it. I'll start tomorrow and see what happens. Why does it turn purple?

I have been told that during the time these bottles were made Magnesium was added as an ingredient and reacts to sun light. I have found them under the ground still clear. After I washed them out and placed them into the sun they turned purple. The longer exposed the darker they become.
 
I have also been told that bottles made after WWI will not do this. Someone else here may have more information about this. We'll see what they have to say as well.

That's essentially correct. Manganese dioxide was a de-colorizer added to glass to make it colorless. WWI cut off world supplies of manganese, and selenium was substituted as a de-colorizer.

Manganese dioxide in de-colorized glass may be excited by ultra-violet light, producing the amethyst color. The manganese dioxide may be stimulated by gamma rays to produce a color closer to blue. Selenium in glass may produce a watery amber color.

Not sure if your up to it on coins, but during the war years through 1942 - 1945 the US Mint made nickels out of silver and magnanese so they get a really really dark look to them after circulation different then the regular copper nickel nickel.
