We thought it was all over....
....but this fairly large area of failed bean crop was where Dad picked up his 2 good buttons on Saturday. It's heavily infested with trash dumped there in the 1880s-1920s. So we were looking for any WWI stuff & buttons. Although we have had a few scrappies & the odd hammered, so there was a 'little hope'.
We spent a tough 3 hours 45 minutes on rock solid clay with targets nearly every pace, but our mass digging paid of;
Jetton
Lead Token
2 Lead Cloth Seals
Broken Georgian Fob Seal
Livery Button
WWI Shoulder/Lapel Badges
Australian Capbadge
Bedfordshire enamelled Sweetheart Brooch
Trajan circa 98AD Silver Denarius
(me)
1180-89 Shortcross Penny - Henry II - Scarce coin, my first 100% confirmed example! (me)
Norman Strap End circa 12th C - Beast Head with long tongue - Extremely Rare - I can't find any recorded that are the same. Until this very clear example, they were unsure it was a tongue.(only 2 examples, 1 with broken tongue & the other is only similar & not tongue like) It's in the style of the earlier Viking Strap-ends of the 11th C.
