Finally a coin! But it's not U.S. :-)

I went to the 1830's CW house today. Hot & sunny. :icon_sunny:
I worked a trashy area around the back of the house and came up with these tidbits for the day. Funny how wet soil really brings out the signals.
I finally found a coin, and wouldn't you know it, it's Chinese! ;D
Anybody have an idea what it says or the age of it?
The back side is smooth with nothing on it. Kind of strange I thought. :icon_scratch:

Also found a decorative buckle, a copper tag of sorts, crock shard, and a tiny pocket knife.
Not much really, but I was able to drop about 5 lbs in water weight by sweating.
Have a great week Folks,
MM

I found a chinese coin this week in Illinois. Mine had a mint mark on the back and is dated around 1821-1850. Yours appears to be even older. If the back is blank then it is much older than mine. Check out this link.

Thanks so much for that link. I didn't realize there were so many! I'll go through it & see if I can spot mine.
Thank you,
MM

Re: Finally a coin! But it's not U.S. :-)

Here is what i found MM ,,,,,,,,,,,MACHINE STRUCK CASH
During the Kuang-hsu period the first machine made cash coins of China were struck. They were struck in a very yellow brass, and tend to be very well made, but do not appear to have been too popular as they are normally seen with very little wear on them, showing they did not circulate widely. Most were made in the Kwangtung province, and were probably first struck in 1889. awesome finds and congrats

Re: Finally a coin! But it's not U.S. :-)

Thanks everyone. Not exactly the coin I was hoping for, but I was surprised to find it in an area that I've detected over and over.
Maybe it's good for a free eggroll? :-\

Thanks so much for that ID. 1889, not too bad. Now if I can find a U.S. coin that year. ;D

Re: Finally a coin! But it's not U.S. :-)

I found a round plate, the same size as a CW pouch plate, that had the same DB design on it, but the letters were big. I posted it years ago and someone told me what it stood for, but I cannot recall what he said. I think came from an automobile and stood for an old auto. If I remember what it is, I will post it. Doug Dude, that Chinese coin is pretty cool. :icon_sunny: Kirk found one a few years ago, but we haven't found anymore since.

That 1830s house was a great site for you. It gave you many memories of artifacts that you'll never forget.

Now, we are all patiently waiting for your next Civil War campsite hunt...patiently that is. :D
