Okay, I have been getting frustrated with my coin collecting. However, today, that luck finally turned around.

My first silver nickel.

I also found a Kennedy half-dollar, 1966. 40% silver.

Believe it or not, both were bought at a thrift store.

Whatdayagot Not all 1982 pennies have the high copper content as that's the year of the switchover and the pre'82 content is 95% copper and 5% zinc. The '82s with high copper content will weigh a tad more than the copper coated zincs, we call zincolns, on a scale that measures grams.

Not all 1942 nickels have silver in them. Only the ones with the large mint mark on the reverse above the dome have silver.....about 35%.

It does have the mint mark. A large s above the dome. I'll get a picture when I get home.

Is this what you are referring to?

Yes, that's the silver version. They made a 1942P and D mint nickel with the pre-war alloy too.
