Finds from last Fall

Here are a couple I found last year on our property, out in the field away from the creek area.
Someone told us to stay by the creek area & not to look in the field as much... what do ya think?
Not sure all we know is we found them in the field!

Also wondered about something. We have a creek that runs on the edge of our property that along the way is spring fed from up the road. My question is, the water flows along at a good semi rapid flow and at one point it just stops! It swirls around in a circle & then just like goes underground, the rest of the creek bed as far as we can see on the neighbors property is dry we can walk the creek bed & it is dry. Is that normal?

It sounds like they wanted you to hunt the creek maybe because they hunted the field?? I do not know but nice finds. Sounds like a cave system under the creek opened up. We have them here that blow up water into a creek and the water drops in summer it reverses. Some are called blue holes. It looks like you guys are on the right track with the field and the creek both. Maybe in the summer the creek may be better and lower?

We had the same thought, that it might be an underground cave of some sorts. The neighbor has a cave on his property. Have not seen it, he has property up for sale & it's in the listing. When you said " We have them here that blow up water into a creek" do you mean a spring that blows water up?

Id look more in the field. They did hunt the creeks when the animals came to drink but the field is probably where their camps were. Looks like you got some good ones.

The landscape including the path of the creek has probably changed alot over thousands of years.. alot of times the creeks are cutting through areas that used to be dry land. And since they normally follow the current topograpy at its lowest point they tend to gather material through the years and floods.

It is bigger & shaped differently than the others... just curious.

Its a Hafted scraper. Some people call them blunts. Alot of those started off as a projectile point.

That's right Gator! However , you forgot "stunner" lol! I think that covers all of the names for these finds!

That type of scraper would of been attached to a wooden or bone handle. The big end would of been used for the cutting and the narrow end would of been put into the handle and then tied or attached by a type of adhesive like tree sap. That style is one of my favorites they used. Very nice

Yes from underground limestone caves they get pressure from the water table and blow up in the creeks and sometimes they will open and blow open in fields. My guess is your water table gets full the creek will flow again .

I have seen them called stunners in books. I always thought it was just wrong, considering most if any of these were actual arrowheads. To stun with an atlal would probably still kill.

No different than us calling a knife an arrowhead. It was done so long ago it just stuck.
