Shermerville--A party town. 300 people and 5 saloons.

I Hunted some woods in the burbs yesterday and found this old foundation and what I think was a well.
The two tokens are identicle and I think were good for a pint of beer.
I found this about Shermerville--

In 1901, three hundred residents incorporated the village of Shermerville. The village had five saloons, a meat market, a coal and feed store, a general store, a harness store, a stonecutter, and a railroad station. Shermerville gained notoriety during its early years for boisterous gatherings at its inns and taverns. In 1923 the town's approximately 525 residents sought to change its image by changing its name to Northbrook.

Best luck to all, Merf

It looks like someone who didn't have the key for that lock wanted it open really badly. Notice all the hammer marks on it!

Nice Job There, I especially like the IHC Button/Badge. (International Harvester Company) Farm equipment Mfg. It's worth a few bucks to an IHC Collector. Great Job.

The Shermerville bar token is the most interesting item to me
It's not often one finds a token from it's home town.

Very nice job on the research. I'm personally thinking your well may just be a privy. See if you can push a probe into it and feel if you pop glass. It is a distinct feeling you can't miss. I could contain a nice variety of old bottles and such.

WOW ! Merf...Awesome history lesson & good research

Nice recoveries 'specially that 1 pint token ... I'm sure the local historical society would like to see it !!

Congrats...now...Go Find More Relics !!

HH !

Yes it is pounded on both sides Joe. Either they lost the key or were breaking in.

That thought crossed my mind also NU. Thanks for the tip.
When I get back there next month I will check it out.
I would love to find some old bottles.
