I just got home from a trip to two of my western Indian Wars sites. I found mostly the typical stuff I find...lots of cartridge casings and bullets. Not many buttons this time. A General's Staff coat button and an Artillery cuff button. I did find my first Infantry hunter's horn badge from a kepi cap. Other interesting pieces were another cavalry spur (broken rowel), some type of screw on eagle piece that I need to research, an unusual style of jar lid, a cool lock, and two unfired cartridges. My trip got cut short by some rainy weather. I'm hoping to get out again before the hot days of summer.

A "cool lock" is an understatement. I've never seen one like that before. It's so exquisite. I wonder what the key looked like.
Not sure. I did circles all around there to see if I could find the key. I'm not having much luck researching the lock. I was hoping it has some unique history. I'd be happy to be the first padlock banner! It's probably nothing special except the design. Thanks!

Congratulations on a great hunt! What a story each item could tell if they could only talk!
Thanks. I imagine those old cavalry soldiers were pretty bored. Most of the fort sites were in the middle of nowhere. Riding out on a patrol was probably something they looked forward to.

Wow, there are enough finds there to fill a display case ! Nice job.
I dig all signals at these places. I get a lot of nails and rusty cans, but find some good stuff, too. Thanks!
