Well we have had record temps for the last 3 days, so it was time to start on my journey to this years goal....less coins with a higher dollar amount. This years goal over $800 in clad with less pennies. So here we go, probably will get in under 10 hunts for month but a very good start, 3 days of hunting produced $18.51 in clad, nothing old. The junk butterfly top right plate for those dfx users came up a 10. Yes I have opened up my discrimination...pretty wide open now... 2 best days were with smaller 5.3 coil (over $8 and over $5), the other day near $5 with stock. The ground is is very soft...was frozen about 3 inches down my first hunt...but with the temp in the 60's, and a ton of rain soft as mush! :)

Gregg, I wish you luck on "paying" for that SE! Everytime you go out, you are one step closer to it. :)

BDD...Kirk

P.S. Will your SE be 1st string next year? ???

Thanks Kirk...actually someone that had a dfx just got a se and they have been nice enough to keep me updated...very interesting...one of the things mentioned was the Minelab does not have as good a depth reading as the dfx which shows in exact inches and half inches with a black bar, the se just has a black bar with no exact reading of depth...might explain some of the lofty depth claims...but I am listening very closely...

I'll take clad anyday. Just lets me know I'm one coin closer to silver ;). Looks like you have hit it hard for those three hunts. Keep up the good work.

Hard and focused...thanks got 2 more hunts in...almost the same results a little less clad...going to post every 3 hunts so I am hoping to get one more in tomorrow...would be 6 straight days....then rest time as the cold returns...maybe... ;D

Gregg, good to see you've taken advantage of the temps. . . Nice haul on the clad!
In all that mush your digging in, your holes must be filling up with water before you can fill them back in :D

(It's always good to remove all the clad that may be "masking" the good stuff)

Take care & HH!

Actually as of today the water is not that bad...still very soft ground which is great..but I know the temps will be back in teens very soon...

This is my response to Gregg's reply to Kirk...."Gregg I'm not crazy about the depth meter on the SE either. My xlpro and cz70pro are both precise. On the SE however...if the bar is halfway down or so...then the target is about 5" to 6" down. I get exact depth measurements when I dig the plug though by using the Lesche digger. The lip is exactly 7" so once I get the plug out it's real easy and accurate to measure the depth by the top of the hole as to where the Lesche hits it at. It's always a great feeling to get the plug out...place the digger in the hole and have the lip flush with the ground surface...then run the sunray probe and still indicating the hit in the ground which is obviously a 7"+ deep coin. I dug an injun last year that was 10" down which amazed me. I got a 7" plug out and the sunray hit it in the hole and it was another 3" down. I found 3 10" deep coins last year...and tons of 8" wheaties and injuns...and several 9" deep ones. I guarantee you the depths are accurate and can honestly say I dug 3 coins last year that were 10" down. I can also honestly say I have never dug a coin OVER 10" down. I have read some claims of people finding coins at incredible depths as you stated...but no one I hunt with has found one over 10" down as far as I know. Beach hunting is different from what I've heard though and people find quarters in excess of 14" in the sand. Good luck in 08."

Congrats on the clad count.....You're off to a good start!

I think some of the claims of 14 to 18 inches do not make sense...of course I am not saying these peole are not telling the truth :D Thanks for the info...I would think though for a detector (the se) that just went up another $100 in retail value a decent depth meter would not be to much to ask!
