I have been at this for a month now and nothing to show for it but a few wheats and many pull tabs. Yesterday I went back to what I call my "training lot" where a old house used to be but is now a large vacant lot and within 10 minutes I find this awesome 1899 Barber Quarter. I am still figuring out my detector which is an Ace 250, so hopefully it wont be another month until the next good find.

Wow, what a great find. Most here will probably say they have not found one yet! It will be a hard act to follow!

great find......how far was she buried in the soil......nice shape too.

That Barber is awesome and I know the feeling!
Barbs are nice anyway, anyhow!

Great job!

Nice barber quarter. Looks like it has alot of detail left on it. It's all over now. You're addicted. :o :o :D

Got me beat. I am in a real young part of the country, and ya just don't find barbers here. Congrats. :icon_pirat:

Wow!! That is indeed an awesome find. It looks like it has a mint letter under the eagle's tail feathers too.
Either O (for New Orleans) or S (for San Francisco) makes it even better. Check COIN TRENDS for value.
In that VF to EF condition you have found a $60-300 coin. Congrats!

Holy cow! Congratulations!!! What a great coin. Keep banging away at that lot - it might not be through training ya!

I found it at about 3 inches deep and it has a New Orleans mint mark. I have only used water and soft bristle toothbrush to clean it so far, is there anything else I should do to this coin?

That is what I like to hear. Someone who has not been at it for a long time and they find something great like that! I've been doing for almost a year and have found the clad/junk jewelery and one silver mens ring which I wear now. Still I wish I could find one too! >:(

Nice find....Don't do anything else with it but admire it. That is worth looking into slabbing it with ANACS.

Congratulations on the Barber! ;D
Great looking coin. I hope you find many more.
If you are like me, you will never tire of finding them.

P.S. I can brighten up your pics, if you would like me to. :)

What a sweet find, keep it up. I had to borrow one from my friend today who happened to have one in his collection just to admire it and use it as a test coin. When I hear what it sounds like, then I will hopefully hear that in the field. Great find and get back to that spot....jgas

Great find, awesome condition too wtg  I remember how I felt when I found my first Barber Quarter last week ;D

That's a great find! Looks like you're learning your detector quite well!

Sweet!!
It's been a long time since I've found one.

Nice Barber and congrats on your first!! I found my first Barber(dime) in 1988 and 13 years later found my second(1899 Quarter)!! Always a thrill, even after a couple hundred I still enjoy seeing a Barber pop up!! That quarter looks to be in great shape!! Sweet!!
