It's been a quiet spring, with just a 3 silver dime pocket spill as the highlight 2 months ago. Haven't even found a wheaties in over 4 weeks! So I figured I better find something good soon so I can take the heat off myself.
Hit an old park outside of town with a buddy who rec comended it and we spent 2 hours hitting the unimproved areas that were parts of old camping grounds. Found: nada, squat, zippo in coins . But I did get a good signal in a bulldozer scrape out in the middle of nowhere. Pulled out what I thought was a paper weight, or toy, or...what almost looked like a pocket watch with a shiny gold colored back to it.
It was! The hands were rusted off and it was hard to see through the glass, but barely saw the clock numbers inside through the glass. Took it to a jeweler who popped out the guts and cleaned up the case a bit. (the workings are totally crud and rusted and melted into a chunk of scrap.) But he couldn't find any markings. So I went home to clean it up some more.
I had to scrape off some crud to read the markings inside: Walthan 14k Colonial!
