First Box of Halves

Went through my first box of halves and only found one 40% 1969 Kennedy Half. One roll actually had $11.00 worth of halves so I guess I came out OK although I only found one silver half! After dumping in the coinstar the total was $500.50.

On a different note, most of my box was comprised of some else's dumps. The reason I know this is the majority(80-90%)of my halves had a small(approx.1-2mm)silver felt tip rim mark! Anybody on here mark in this manner or color?

I guess I'm wondering since this hobby/addiction is already a somewhat time intensive exercise, why would someone spend that much extra time marking that many coins? It's a shame my coins weren't wrapped in clear plastic--that way I could have edge checked since someone else had already checked them for me.

My bank has one and since I am a customer there was no charge! I would have dumped loose or rerolled before paying a fee. Also, my other bank did not charge me to order the halves.

Not complaining--just realizing you have be dedicated and develop a good system to do this hobby if you're serious! Hopefully, I'll find my groove and start finding some silver here and there!

I got a box that was almost entirely made up of the type of mark you describe. I dumped them back, and now see them often. Can't really tell if it's the same ones or not, but it's definitely the same marker. I wonder if we're seeing the same coins. I live next door to Kentucky.

I bet we are seeing some of the same coins. Almost every roll had 10 or more coins marked in this fashion. Personally,I would use the marking time for searching time!

Me too! I'm too new at this to just edge check! Will be looking at dates only for a while to come! HH
