First ever box of nickels...

No Silver, and I nearly gave up 75% of the way through the box - but I stuck with it, and on my 2nd to last roll I pulled out an 1894 V Nickel - kinda beat up, but the date is clear as a bell.

I will post a picture later.

Moral of the story: Never give up.

I love this hobby!

congrats on your box of nickels, I like nickels too, V nickels are so much rarer than buffalo nickels or war nickels. out of the 50+ boxes I have done over the past few years, I only pulled one V nickel, a 1904 V nickel.

congrats on your box of nickels, I like nickels too, V nickels are so much rarer than buffalo nickels or war nickels. out of the 50+ boxes I have done over the past few years, I only pulled one V nickel, a 1904 V nickel.

And yes, they really are. I've done about 30 boxes and pulled a 1905 from my 2nd box and a 1906 & 1912 both from box 10

I've been searching nickels for almost 2 years and still haven't found one yet. Maybe in the next box.

Yeah, I was totally ready to give up on nickels. I guess I knew that it was going to be far more tedious than dimes or halves, but it worse than I thought! Glad I stuck it out. I didn't know getting a V was so rare, but it sounds like I really got lucky.

I'm currently planning my route for tomorrow morning. I need to stop into my banks and order up a few boxes of halves, maybe 6 in total for delivery on Tuesday, and another 6 on Thursday. Then I'm jumping in the car, turning on the GPS, driving out to some of the little 'burbs and looking for banks! And to think, I was thinking of switching from night shift to day shift...that would have really screwed up my CRHing!
