Ive been detecting for well over twenty years now and you might think in that time I would have found something related to masons or a masonic pin , medal, or whatever:; not so, until today!

I took a drive up the road from my house to take a look at a field I scouted briefly in the fall. The day after I took a quick walk through last fall the hunters came and the lease signs went up....wait til spring. The snow was gone today but the slick sinky muck wasn't! It was hard enough to walk let alone dig; and there was still frost in the ground down about six inches or so.

I only dug a few signals, lead, a few buttons, a worn token and a masonic watch fob/seal!
Sadly it came out in two pieces (struck by the plough I guess) but it is what it is and I think its a winner in my books!
I'll maybe head back when the conditions improve and it dries more, but the rain forcast for the next couple of days sure isn't going to help.
I put some dirt back in the cut glass/stone to show the details a bit better, it's hard to see since the glass is clear, but it's there!

Very cool.
I don't think I put one of those on my "official top ten list", but is a top ten find in my book.

That is a sweet seal! I've only ever found one and it was only the brassed glass...not the frame. Being Masonic of that era makes it somewhat significant I would think!

That is an awesome piece IH! The Masons are such a fascinating group with an amazing history

Very cool find. I've been detecting for over 25 years and have never found a masonic item.

Without a doubt Rick , it's the kind if thing I never thought would be out there, since I've never seen another (that I recall ) but I'm glad I got it!

Sweet finds IronHorse !!!!

That is indeed a signifiant find for these areas....big congrats !!

I have read stories of a stone that was found very close to here in early 1600s that had the masonic symbol on it .... it is believed that the stone is now in the walls of a building in Ontario...if memory serves me correctly. But they cannot find it now.

Maybe just a story...but if it is true....makes for some interesting history.

I believe a significant part of our parliament buildings were constructed by masons and there are symbols all over them, never know, an old stone could have been slipped in during construction

I will try to find that literature tomorrow and forward it to you.

Very interesting read.

Had something to do with them thinking that the masons may have arrived here before them in 1604 as the stone was found during their exploration of the land.

that is awesome!

Now THATS a cool find!

You still might be able to find the other piece!

Your 20 years, and my 13, and that's 2 Masonic finds in a very long time! I don't expect we'll see another this weekend. :laughing7:

Nice find! I dig a Masonic piece about three weeks ago or so at a home place established around 1845 on the El Camino Real in East Texas. I'm not sure if it's from a ring or was a lapel pin.
