Got out for a quick hunt today and found my first farthing. It's very ugly but I'm happy to check off a first. I also found what looks to be a very old key. I had found another copper at this site a few days ago but it's the worst I've ever seen. I've been hunting in all metal lately and have pulled some deep keepers from sites that I and others have hammered. I'm really getting used to it and am realizing that there's a lot of very deep stuff that I've been missing.

I also recently found and returned this ring. Met Stephen Sunday and he was pretty psyched to have his class ring back.

Sometimes the coins dont come out of the ground the way you would like them, but still goods finds the merc looks good..

You'd think we'd see more of those dug with them being smaller change, and even a smaller coin to lose, but that is not the case. They must have minted far fewer than the halfpennies. I have found a George I,II, & III and that's not really that easy. If anyone on here has William & Mary right to George III I would be impressed!

Nice going on the digs, and the return of the ring!

I'm going to say Crusader. :laughing7:

Congrats on that farthing and other cool finds. That key should clean up nicely and the farthing is great because we don't see many come up. Post a pic of the key if you're going to clean it. Glad you're getting out bud.

The key is actually iron so I'm not sure how well it will clean up. Might throw it in some ACV and see what happens. Happy with the farthing. If love to find a nice one some day

Yeah you dirty dog you do owe me a lobster dinner. I can get em dirt cheap from my guy but I think I'll let you pay full price and I'm gonna be very hungry lol. Btw my farthing is way nicer than yours. In fact yours really sucks. Worst I've ever seen lol

Nice finds Ab, the key looks great but if it were mine I would give it a week in the ACV and see how it looks. I have had a lot of good results with ACV.
ZDD

That would be impressive. I got the hard one out of the way with the W&M, now I just need the rest!

I see that it's iron. Either that or a little electrolysis bath. Looks like it has a good base but its its up to you bud.

I'm def gonna try to clean it up. I think it's solid enough.

Congrats knocking that one off your list. I'd take one in any condition. I need to try the all metal in some of my old sites. Hope the next site gives you some more great finds. HH!

Great finds Abe! Congrats on the farthing!!! She's an oldie :)

Nice finds, three wheats for me today, glad I wasn't in on that bet!
I like your finds, nice return.
You should try my hammer and chisel on that key, maybe a dremel ?
All kidding aside , white distilled vinegar. Takes a long time but is easy and works

I would say likely, but not a sure thing. It's surprising with how much he finds how certain things don't show up often... 1700s George III Shilling I know is one we have talked about. Or a particular little 1700s Navy button... we have found many here, and I know a lot get dug in the UK, but if I recall correctly not only did he not have one of very many of these buttons, it took us a little back and forth to be on the same page. So if he came on here and said he had never dug a William & Mary Farthing it would not surprise me, some things just don't turn up for some people. Now would I bet against him... don't think so. :laughing7:
