Hello to all,
I posted an introduction but did not have a pic of my find at the time...I bought a new viper trident at a ok price and am a scuba diver...Thought it would be cool to metal detect underwater and was gona give it a try...When I got the machine, I took my kids to a spot with cellar holes to give it a try on land...My first 15 min or so I found a Liberty dime from 1886...Now Im hooked and want to go back to the woods...Every min of the day, I dream and focus on metal detecting lol...Anyway here is the pic I took when I got home.. First find ever, not to be the last..

Your doin' great, much better better than average, pace yourself, and make sure you have knee pads, good digging tools, and if you can afford it, a pin pointer (doubled my speed in harvesting the signals)!:laughing7:

Thanks for the Advice Mrmackin.. Before I got to the field yesterdy I stopped at home depot and bought a small shovel, small scoop, diggin knife and gloves but didnt think about knee pads...Great idea!! I was thinking of going back out today but it is pooring out so not sure...Dont mind the rain but I got to work overnight so may just sleep so im not tired...we'll see I guess...anyway, thanks again! HH Joel
p.s. so hooked its not even funny! lol

That's a great spot all the same :). I found a 1875 Dunedin tramways token, in my front yard. As they are only worth about $3 I gave it to my friend who's a coin collector. (Secretly) although he's a great guy I really wish i hadn't have given it to him. Great start to your collection !!

You need the sleep, or else it's hard to deal with the stress that may come if you get skunked,:BangHead: and in this field, a good attitude goes a long way toward making finds. Also, watch out for the "fever", it won't let you sleep, even if you're tired. If we were meant to do this, we have all experienced this, it's a right of passage. My "fever" is under control, but goes back up the night before I hit a new site.:icon_pale:

My advice is let the rain soak in and disperse. The deeper the water it sinks, the better for amplifying signals through the soil, but you know the conditions better than me (sandy as opposed to dirt, drought, etc.). Also from first hand experience, if it's sandy, no prob, but if it's dirt, you are going to be covered in mud and muck, and even with a pin pointer it's hard to locate anything, and btw, unless your driving a junker, bring a big towel, drop cloth/rug to throw over your drivers seat, saves a lot of clean up, HH! (happy hunting!).
:hello:

LOL, I drive a new jeep wrangler 2 door. good idea bout the towel..I called work to see if I could have the night off and they said I wasn't even scheduled to come in (NICE)! while on the phone a fellow co-worker asked if I could give him a lift home....I said I would even though its a far drive so I can hunt this beach by his house...A small beach it is but after I told him the other day of my find, He told me a guy was out on the beach looking for his weeding band that he lost there recently..He was all upset because he had just gotten married...Maybe I can find it and return it to him! I was thinkin maybe the fever would die down after a bit! deep breath lol deep breath! caaaan't goooo onn.......neeeeeeeed silverrrr haha....or gold! lol Thanks friend. Joel

Nice... I have been hunting now for 6 yrs...no seateds yet for me

Wow Saltyshark, A very impressive collection you have! You must have gone crazy when you found the 1785 spanish 1/2 reale..I cant imagine what that would have been like for you! That is an awsome find! Not to mention all the other stuff you have found...I see your from Candia, NH...not too far from me....Maybe one of these days we will meet up for a hunt...Being new to this, all I have been doing is thinking and thinking of different places to hunt and have come up with some great ideas..Wouldn't mind sharing them with a fellow New Hampsherane! Not like you need my assistance though lol...You've got an amazing collection already! I had come across some info about a place in Gloucester MA That I was gona give a try...It may be hunted out but was gona give it a go anyway....Let me know if your interested..If not, no big deal..I totally understand the hunting alone thing...HH -----Joel

That dried up lake sounds like a great spot, if no-one else has been over it very diligently. Quite a few old gold rings on here found in old swimming areas. Nuggy
