Detector(s) used
Vintage White Coin Master and New Garrett Ace 300
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I bought a Garrett Ace 300 Metal Detector. I have a piece of property that's been in my family for many years. My grandfather was a logger and had a team of horses he used for hauling firewood and lumber. This goes back to the late 1800's to early 1900's.
I couldn't wait to use my new detector, so I went to the property to see what I could find. I struck out at the spot I went to first, and decided to focus on the path, thinking maybe through the years people may have dropped things. All I found were horseshoe nails. I would toss them aside not thinking much about them, until I thought about my grandfather and his horses. Then I remembered I had a picture of him with his team. It was pretty neat thinking, these horseshoe nails most likely came from the horses in the photo below. My grandfather is furthest to the right driving the horses. I don't know the year, but it's somewhere around 1900.
Not much of a find, but pretty cool to me.

Welcome to the Forum - believe me when I tell you ... the longer your in this hobby the better it gets !
It take patience - you learn a little more every time you go out - keep reading and asking questions and things will start to fall into place.
Sounds like there could be some good finds there - keep looking !

Good Hunting !

Welcome from Texas

Nice finds. I'd frame the picture along with a horseshoe and display it in your home. The horseshoe may not have come from those exact horses, but chances are they came from a horse that your Grandfather had driven somewhere along the way. What a great way to honor his hard work. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome from North Carolina....

Early pictures of Family History are Super Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Now I see why I find so many different sized iron rings in my field hunts. Thanks for the picture.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks. The last time I did any detecting was back in the 70's at Myrtle Beach SC. My Dad had a White Coin Master. I still have it and it still works, and we found a ton of change and rings with it down there. But I'm liking my new Garrett Ace 300 so far!

Welcome from deepest Southeast Arkansas. You,ll find the most helpful, nicest people here along with much great advice.

Nice finds and connection to your own history.

Don’t throw that stuff to the side even if it’s junk. Get yourself a bag and take that out of there so you never have to waste time finding it again (and again and again...)

Good luck and happy hunting

Great! The more you hunt, the more you learn about your machine, and what it can do and can't.
Tip: Guess what the target is, THEN dig it....!

great find and memory for sure, thanks
