I don't post very often, basically I'm computer illiterate. But I have to share my brothers find. He asked permission from a co-worker to hunt his yard. It's a very big yard,in the middle of town. The house is over 100 years old and there used to be a horse barn on the property. The first time he checked the yard he found some wheats, clad and a standing liberty quarter.Well he got out today before the weather turned rainy and he again found clad and a barber dime.Towards the end of his hunt he found a 1914 Indian head half eagle gold coin. He still has only checked maybe half the property.Hopefully the weather will let him hit it a few more times. Needless to say we were extremely excited.
He has been on a great roll finding 3 silver half dollars and many other silver dimes and quarters. It's to bad the season is almost over,(Midwest winter). Thanks for looking, it took my 3 attempts to post :-[ Dan

I've always loved these coins. The only type of American coin with incuse devices.

I had to look up incuse also: (from About.com)
Definition: Incuse is where the devices or lettering on a coin are sunken below the field of the coin. Most coins today use relief where the devices and designs rise above the field of the coin..
Examples:
The Indian Head $2.50 gold coin (1908-1929) has incused lettering and devices.

Great find you and your brother are sharing! Seems so illusive, it's not even on my list (yet), still looking for an Indian. Congrats!

That is a sweet find :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

What A beauty!!!

Allen, the banner would be awesome but I know the rules, he doesn't have the internet.I had to share.I get such a joy at looking at the other finds. It Keeps the dream alive! The treasure is still out there! Silver and gold, just like Yukon Cornelius.

I think that is one of the neatest designed coins there is
and im so glad you shared that beautiful find with us.
I hope to be so lucky to find one of those in my life,
Happy hunting !!!

That's a Mighty Fine Coin :o
The Indians carry a bigger premium than the Coronets.
I've never even touched a Gold Indian :D
Congrats to your brother! thanks for showing

That is my favorite US gold coin design...congrats to your brother.

I hope it makes the banner.
