Am I lucky or what? Today is the first day of the month and today I found my first gold ring only ten minutes into mding at the local city park. After finding two pull tabs and some clad I was told by this raggedy looking man that it was illegal and that I would be tearing up the ground. He was in a tight t-shirt and ripped up jeans. I asked him if he was the park ranger and he said yes. But then he kept rambling about how "they" would give me a ticket and "they" would find me. I was like WHO THE HELL IS "THEY" ????? Then he walks away, gets into a truck and leaves the park. I didnt' want him to cause a scene so I just left but I was still on cloud nine cause I had just found my FIRST GOLD RING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hello2:

I am going back next time early in the morning so I dont have any crazies to deal with. But it had just finished raining and I remember the guys on here saying that is the best time to hit the parks so I did!!!

mmd,check your ordinances!!!!!!Nice find!

make sure you take mace or some kind of protection w/ you. I carry a pistol & have a shotgun in the truck, course I am more leary of bears or cougars than humans.
nice find! hope you get to finish the hunt there. sounds like it's a good spot

Congrats on the Gold Ring, :icon_thumright: !

looks like maybe a class ring? but ya gotta love the shiny yella stuff

that's awesome. one down ????? to go

Should have got his tag number. Nice ring. :icon_thumleft: :icon_pirat: :icon_thumright:

Should have asked his name and told him you were going to nominate him for employee of the month. Or better yet ask him if he would like to dump your finds on the ground and leave . In a nice way of course . They probably allow dogs in the park and half the people do not clean up after them . But they will gladly charge an MDer a permit fee of 10 or 20 dollars . To police call the park. Best thing to do is ask for his supervisor because you want to obtain permission to hunt there . OK off the soap box nice find BTW Rob :coffee2:

He was just probably pissed because he pawned his metal detector! :tongue3: I love it when the drunk guys come over and try to start an intelligent conversation with yah, and then they repeat the same D#@mm story over and over in between the beeps. The drunk guy I ran into, threw a dime down in front of me and says " Sheeee if itellll detect that. I did and said, "Yep it works, thanks for the dime"!
Marvin. Im off tomorrow with the new Minelab Etrac and headed to an old Stagecoach trail :read2: Stay tuned.

Nice RING.

I like the idea of carrying mace just for such encounters - did he provide you with proof of park employment?

He didn't provide me with proof of park employment and the truck didn't look like a park ranger truck.. but if I see him again I will ask for his supervisors name so I can get permission. :laughing7:

Hopefully you WON"T see him again, now,a park ranger is a different story!!!!!!!!!!

Nice find!!! WTG!!!! Be safe when you're out there!!!

congrats on the gold. never forget your first:)

Good finds, miss MDiing. Got to love any gold that comes out of the ground.....almost 2,000. per ounce.
Don't pay too much for a can of mace. Some people don't go down for it.
Many police, sheriffs, etc are recommending an inexpensive can of wasp spray....the kind that sprays about 30 feet.
It will stop a person....and won't permanently harm him/her. But, at that moment, they certainly won't hurt/harm you.
I carry it for wasps, wild pigs, bears, and snakes that creep and walk.
Good hunting. Hope you find some more.

I doubt some jerk in a tight shirt and ripped jeans was a park ranger. He's probably just someone with nothing better to do than try and ruin someones day, congrats on the gold. Always be sure to check the rules then you know your in your rights, then you can tell them to piss off.

CONGRATS ON YOUR GOLD RING! Looks like a very nice one too. I've been detecting about eight months, no gold yet. Please heed the suggestions re mace, or bring a friend along when you go to isolated, woodsy or nearly empty parks. Most people you meet will be friendly and interested in your success, and I've received many suggestions for good detecting spots from strangers who used to detect themselves. Unfortunately, others will steal backpacks or equipment! In isolated areas, women are more vulnerable than men, even old ones like me. Once when detecting around woodsy picnic tables, a guy came up in total silence behind me when I was crouched down digging a find, and turned away instantly when I stood up to face him, eerie; then he walked off. That's why I no longer detect alone if in isolated areas. I resent having to be so cautious, but none of us has control over what's happening in someone else's brain. Also, it's best not to carry on a conversation with anyone who seems negative. I HOPE YOU FIND GOLD ON THE FIRST OF EVERY MONTH, LOL. Your city's code regarding detecting may well be on-line. My city doesn't prohibit park detecting but states that no trees or plants can be disturbed. Andi

whoops, I stand corrected! hikesinmountains' suggestion of a can of wasp spray that sprays 30 feet sounds better than the mace. Andi
