My wife let me get out for a couple hours today so I hit my moms yard again, I have found 7 buttons in her yard in the last couple months 2 pewter and 5 flat buttons but no coins. My mother said it had been hunted alto by the previous owner so I always work with no discrimination and dig everything but iron. Today I hunted an hour and a half with nothing but some bottle caps when I decided to hunt the driveway, I have never hunted a drive because there always so packed down and fool of rocks but my first signal was a penny reading and read at only a inch but I dug anyway and when it came out I thought it was a quarter until i Saw liberty across the top, so I washed it off under the spicket and could read the date 1808 it was my first half cent and my oldest coin yet. My mothers going to till her yard in the spring so I should get some more good stuff out of there, thanks for reading and happy hunting!

Thats awesome dude! I think it might be a large cent though. Do you have a picture of the back to verify that it is a half cent? Otherwise I think its a large cent. But I could be wrong! Otherwise very awesome find dude!

Congrats on your first Half Cent and wish you luck in future hunts in the yard area.

Don

Its a half cent 1808 was the last year of the draped bust type for half cents and large cent draped bust ended in 1807 and the back does say 1 over 200 but is hard to see. Its the first I have found but I have several I have bought.

Incredible find. I wish I could find 200 year old coins an inch down where I live!

Great find, Collector!

Congrats! You are in a great area for colonials, and even some cobbs!

And MrBling, I bet you can find some 400 year old coins in your region.

Beautiful half cent. :o Makes me all tingly inside. :icon_sunny: I've only found one half cent myself....an 1809 classic head version.

Great way to get some Great finds by thinking outside of the box.

That gravel driveway wasn't there back in the early 1800s. :)

Nice work, and some Serious congratulations...
