Well I decided to go out and do some detectin today. It was a beautiful day today no clouds, sunny, and fairly warm.Took a walk down a ridge top here on the farm.Must have walked a half mile out and half mile back.I found some nails and shotgun primers, bullets, scrap the usual.I took my time trying to find a coin today.I decided i was getting tired of swinging and headed back for home.On the way out i switchedd sides of the ridge top to see what may be on the other side.I was almost ready to call it quits when i heard a good signal.I said to myself ,thats a coin.I dug my plug and scanned the hole it was still there.Dug a little deeper and out popped the coin I was looking for.I scanned the area a little more to see if anything else wanted to go home with me, but nothing.I waited till I got home before i cleaned so I didn't know what I had found.I made sure not to rub it( Thanks Buckle Boy ).Gave it a little faucet bath and lightly brushed it.It's my first IH find.I'll post some pics after the peroxide bath. It's cleaning up nice :o

Congratulations! The first one of any coin is always special!! Just after the Civil War, it looks like. Don't you wish it could talk? Thanks for sharing. -Noodle

Wow Hill Billy,
That has got to be the greenest patina I have ever seen on a coin.
Good job and I am sure your IH will clean up very nice.
Thanks!
Rob

Thanks everyone for the compliments.this poor coin is hurtin for certain. After a peroxide bath it looks like the coin has seen better days.Something in the soil here just eats coins.Maybe it's the cattle giving them a ph bath, I dunno.I'm leaving it alone at this point.

Great find Hill Billy, that is still on my wish list right below a half dime. Like someone said "wish that coin could talk". Wouldn't it be nice to know who exactly dropped the coins we all find. You never know we all could have a coin that was in George Washingtons pocket last. If only we could tell!!!

Congrats Hill Billy. I know you will find many more injuns'.

Great coin HB! I wish we could have been there. See PM! That is about as good as they get coming out of the ground in this part of the state. A big thataboy on the find. ;D ;D ;D

Nice indian HB!

Cograts on the first IH. The only one I have I found at the old general store. You know the one ;)

BRAVO HB! I don't know how I missed this thread, but a big congratulations to you. Seems like the parts of that coin that had the green patina cleaned up well, but the parts where it was eaten by the ground were lost. Sometimes we like what the peroxide reveals and sometimes we don't. Best wishes to you. I'm sure we'll hunt again soon.

Once again everyone, thanks for your comments. It was truly a good find for me.I'm looking for a large cent now.Thats my next goal ;D.

Will, thanks for your help with my detecting skills,I just need to get better with this machine so i can find some more goodies.

PS: Everyone should always carry duct tape while detecting. :o

The Indian cent is a good find.At least it tells you someone has been there at one time years ago.I would guess you found it on the west side off the hill. All my old pocket spills i found on the west side of hills.Never found any on the east, north or south sides.I think hunters go to west side to get the heat of the sun on cold days.Go work the west side. This should help a lot of detectorist to decide were to hunt first when hunting tops and sides of hills wooded or not.
