Howdy y'all,

Hit it for a few hours with Brother john37115 on an old farm site today. Lots of iron in the ground. I found my first Indian Head Penny. (1904) also a 1915 D wheat and some relics. Found the Old file and the Indian Head in the same hole. :D Hopin' for a flying eagle cent now, I figure the chances are slim since they were only made what 3 years. Maybe I'll get to skip and go straight to a big coppa ;D The one iron piece looks like some sort of handle to me. ??? I like the small loop back button too. Maybe off a lady or childs garment I'm guessing.

AWESOME finds and pics.

You know that feeling you got when you dug first Indian Head? It's the exact same EVERY TIME you dig one. It's awesome!

Great Finds.

I totally agree with nc-joe,although I've only found 3 my 1st was a 1903 then a first year 1859 then one in the 1860's.Your 1904 is in much better shape than my 03.Great job!! They are easy to miss.

Man it was a good feelin. I saw the wreath on the back first and I knew instantly.  :o Funny thing is I dreamed night before last that I found my first one. It was a cool dream but even cooler when I held it in my hand. ;D

Way to go Kirk! I'm happy for ya. Now dream of me finding something good.

Congratz on the first IH ... you're lucky it's in such good shape ( my 1st one was in terrible shape and barely recognizable ) ~ Jimmy

Congratulaions Kirk, nice looking Indian Head there!

Ditto that. Found my first yesterday. Can't make out the front. No idea what the date is. It has the shield on the back so I know it's 1860-1909.
Did you have to clean it or did it come out of the ground like that?

Congrats on your first injun bro. I have hunted that little area twice now and missed those two coins. Your getting dangerous on that ol pro xl. What say we get out awhile tommorrow too?

TooManyHobbies-  The penny was caked here an there in dirt when I plucked it out I could see a nice green patina goin' on in the spots where the dirt had fallen off. I gentle rubbed just enough to see a date, then put it in my wallet till I got home. I microwaved about a half inch of peroxide in the bottom of a plastic cup for about 40sec. then placed the Indian in it for about 20minutes or till the peroxide had cooled then I took the coin to the sink and with a soft toothbrush gentle rubbed the front and back under a small stream of water. Then set it on a paper towel to air dry. Then I took the pics.

Hey Brother John, I definitely would like to hit it again tomorrow. ;) ;D

Good for you Kirk,
That sure is a thrill when you realize you have an IH and not a wheat for the first time.
Jim

Congrats on your first injun. It appears to be in pretty good shape, too.

Kirk,
Isn't that a great sight to see that greenish patina on the dirt. You just know it's going to be something good. ;D Of course, silver is a nice sight too. ;)

Congrats on your first IH. I agree with NC-Joe:

looks like its in pretty good shape. nice work

Thanks MM, I remember seeing my Dad pluck some out as well as my brother John. I'm just real proud to have finaly found One. ;D It is most certainly a different charge than a wheat. However, I still like to find wheats. It's the little bursts of excitement that comes with knowing it's a wheat and hoping it's a key date :D

Congrats on that first Indian; may it be the beginning of a long line!

I hear ya. The IH is one of my favorite looking coins along with the Merc. My first IH was a 1874 right next to a huge oak on the farm I hunted most of last year. Looking forward to seeing your next one. Good luck.
