I have been doing some research and found some old books on my town. I found a spot that was supposedly a swimming hole in the 1920's. I hit the Roosevelt at the shoreline and then hit seated up on the dry sand in a wash-out.

The dry sand is typically submerged but the water levels are LOW. I was 99% sure it would be a silver dime due to the VDI (80 for silver vs. 79 for a clad dime). I saw the wreath on the back and got excited thinking Barber. Boy was I wrong...a 1843 seated dime in decent condition. I didn't notice until I rinsed if it that someone had carved an 'H' into the front of it.

I cleaned the Rosie with baking soda but didn't have the guts to try it on the dime.

Anyway...it was a VERY exciting find for me...one that I have been waiting for since before I bought my detector! Needless to say, I'm sooo excited over this. The carving on the front makes it even better, personally.

Nice seated. Got my first seated dime a few months ago, was an 1840.

Very Nice Seated. Liberty still showing.

Nice seated man..keep swingin...I would def. hit that area again.

Thank you all! I'll be back to the location for sure!

I seriously could hardly believe it when I flipped it over.

Nice find! Looks like it is a dandy too me. Hope you find many more. Bobcat

Big congrats!! The only seated I have found is a 1843. Sweet coin!

Thank you all....I still get excited when I look at it.

I went back last weekend and hit the general area pretty hard. I found more clad and a ton of pulltabs but the only other item that seemed to fit with the 1843 dime was this musket ball. Not sure of caliber.

It was directly downslope from the dime about 10'.

Well done. You'd need to measure the musketball with calipers to get an accurate ID on the caliber of it. Looks like at least .58 cal, but maybe .69.

Best Wishes,

Buck
