First silver..... and it's a Standing Liberty Quarter!

This past Saturday I took out my White's Coinmaster Pro for the third time- I've been hunting my stepfather's house as he lives in an area that was previously a small town/settlement centered around an old lumber yard. The last two times I hunted there I found some turn of the century tent rope tensioners, an old dairy token, an early 1900's military button and other random bits of old tools. Other than a couple of Wheaties, I hadn't found any coinage here up until Saturday.

I was working my way through the front piece of his 3 acres, chasing a few erratic signals here and there (I really need to learn how to deal with those better). Right before I found the silver I hit a solid signal that showed 8+ inches down, and after using the Lesche and not finding anything I had to break out a full sized shovel. Finally at about 18 inches I found an old metal bowl with blue and white designs on it. I was very impressed that the Coinmaster Pro found this at that depth! Must be because it was so large???

At any rate, right after that I hit a solid signal about 4" down and out popped this- my FIRST silver ever on my third trip out! I was so blown away to wipe the dirt off this and see what it was. At first, I was telling myself it was a modern state quarter before it was clear what it was. The feeling of finding something like this and holding it in my hand was priceless and I'm hoping there's more of this stuff out there!

TampaNative, you found a GREAT SLQ! I'd grade that at least XF40, and probably AU55. Maybe better, but can't make out more details until you get the coin so that it fills the view finder. Full shield. Full inner shield. Looks like a lot of details on the inner sheild, which often indicates a barely circulated coin. WTG!!

I own a Coinmaster Pro as well, TampaNative. You may need to reduce the sensitivity in order to get away from the falsing signals you are hearing. I did. Try to presets to begin with. I always try to go as high in sensitivity as possible, and let my ears do the discriminating. But not everyone can do that.

Let the machine tell you what is large enough and close enough to the surface to keep you from digging 16 inches on a metal bowl. OTOH, maybe you don't really want to ignore those deep signals. Your call.
