First Silver & First Buttons from First 2011 Outing
I had gotten out for a little while earlier this month before the temps dropped and the new snow arrived. I was happy with a musket ball, a "Double Gilt" flat button and a Zouave button. I tossed the trash items into my pouch for later examination.

As I was going through the trash pile this week, I came across what I thought at first was a peel off pull tab or a piece of junk aluminum. Upon closer examination I was not sure if it was junk, so I got out my jewelers loupe. I was surprised to see the letters BBB and what looks to be a hallmark or initials engraved on the piece. My immediate thought was Bailey, Banks & Biddle, a Philadelphia silversmith dating back to the 19th century, but I now know this is incorrect.

It turns out this is center band of an old English Zulu smoking pipe made by Britain's Best Briars, pre 1900:
While it was certainly not my best outing ever, it is always nice to dig some old relics.
I know I have said this before, but always check your trash before discarding it!
