I have been using and learning on the etrac for a few weeks and must admit I had started to get a little discouraged. But all of that changed today. A friend found out that I enjoyed detecting and asked if I could come by to look for a ring which belonged to his father. It was lost by a sister over 40 years ago in the backyard. I told him I would give it a try. To make a long story short, after finding a few pennies and my first silver Rosie, I pulled this little beauty out. (see attached pic) Next week is the father's 96th birthday. I cannot tell you how happy it made me to see him stare at that ring like a long lost friend. The funniest comment was, "I remembered it being bigger than that." As for me, I'm officially hooked.

Cool find and a great job, And can you just imagine his feelings at looking at that ring after40 yrs have gone by? Amazing job ......HH

At some time or another we all find things that make us feel really good. But, I don't think that many of us find an item that makes several people feel so good about a find. Yours is a very warming story that not only made you and your friend feel great but I'm sure for the old guy, who has seen alot in 96 yrs., have a feeling that doesn't come over him too often.

The good stuff we find gets us Hooked , your recent encounter may turn you into an addict!
Hope you can hang on to that High for a long time!

Oh buy the way, what was the reaction of the sister who lost it ?

Wow great story and find!!! Reading that made me tear up!!! :notworthy:

They were calling the sister tonight. I will see them tomorrow evening and get that reaction.

Thanks for liking this story, it really was very cool to glance over at him and see him staring at the ring.

By the way that is a huge ruby in the center.

Awesome!
I've had a couple people ask me to help locate a long-lost ring, but no luck. Very often, there have been significant changes to the yard, such as concrete patios, detached garages, etc. so your find was extraordinary!
And to make an elderly gentleman's day was priceless!
Hats off to you!

Exellent job finding and returning the ring.I would have loved to see the look on that old guys face when he saw the ring after 40 years.:leprechaun-hat:

Welcome and good start. Congratulation!

Great story and great helping him find the long lost ring...To think after 40 years being reunited...I think this deserves to be sent to honorable mention......
