Went through a box of half dollars today. It was a lot of fun. At first I was worried because I wasnt finding any silver, but then about half way through i found a 40% and hoped my luck might pick up. Then, it happened. I saw a 90% silver rim 4 rolls later and my heart started beating. I pulled it out and saw Walking liberty!!! My first ever walking liberty half dollar! I was full of excitement. Then i finished up the rest of the box and found 1 more 40% silver. Strangely enough i also found a wiered coin in the very last roll. It said Andrea Doria on it. I asked my mom if she knew the name and she said it was a famous boat that sunk. The coin also has the numbers
7 25 56 on it. I guessed this meant July 25, 1956. I was right. I went on the web and searched the name of the boat "Andrea Doria". I found a ton of results. From my info, the boat sunk in a tradgety on July 25, 1956. The same date that is on the coin! The coin is dated 1977 though (Kennedy half dollar). Does anyone know what this coin is from?

Thanks for looking and HH!

Geraldo Rivera went through a couple of shows that pretty much ruined him. One was the raising of a safe from the Andrea Doria once the wreck was located. The safe was pulled up and all that was in there was some paper money and a few documents. The other show that wiped him out was when he and others located Al Capone's secret vaults. He spent a couple of days with his show airing the excavation process and when the vaults were finally cracked......wine.....lots and lots of wine. Good years. Some art I think and a bunch of miscellaneous crap.

One had to know that Capone was not the only one who knew where the vaults were and how to get into them. I think that maybe a more realistic approach to live treasure recovery would be a better fit than getting into something that was either bound to be pillaged already or underwater safes that may have only contained limited valuables. Lesson learned. Geraldo never tried one of those stunts again...matter of fact he didn't last too long on TV after that.

Nice coins.

Laater...

Thanks everyone!

Interesting find CC! HH, Mike

Nice walker! Do you just buy rolls of halfs and go through them hoping to find something good? I'm curious as it sounds like a ton of fun.

THANKS!

Yep, you pretty much got it! Go through rolls and hunt for silver, hope for the best!

Or go to yahoo and type in "coin roll hunting". The 5th result should be a link to TN explaining CRH in depth.

Hello,

Cool Finds, Where did the box come from? To me and most collectors the 1977 coin is defaced and would not sell to most collectors for more than $0.50. However you may, like you said find someone who wants it. Oh...I still want to know where the box came from?

Keep @ it and HH!!

I ordered it from a bank. Ask the tellers if they can order one for you. They cost $500.

If you mean my area... im from CT.
