Gather 'round boys and I'll tell you a story. :)

I had a fairly poor finding day yesterday. Still, enjoyed being able to be out and trying though. Anyway, when I got home I was sorting through my trash and came upon this small plastic medicine bottle that I must've picked up off the surface, because even the lid was plastic.

As I moved to toss it in the can, I heard a little rattle. I thought the bottle was empty because it was clear plastic and nothing much was seen at first glance. As I moved it to the sunlight to see better, I got this brilliant flash! Still didn't see what though.

I emptied the bottle onto a clean surface and found the following glittering up at me.

IMGA1387.webp

And, no, I don't mean the dime. It was along side. Here's a little closer.

IMGA1389.webp

The plot thickens.
Now, my hearing is fair, at least on my good side. :) But, it's not good enough to hear that rattling around in there. No, what I heard was this:

IMGA1390.webp

Any jewelers out there?

Here's a couple more views.

IMGA1391.webp

IMGA1393.webp

Now, this might not mean much, except that the initial tests show BOTH these stones as diamonds!!! I have never seen a raw diamond before! My firend, who is checking them said he'll do some more evaluation and let me know for sure. His tester reads diamond and they both scratch glass for what that's worth.

Not a banner find. Not even metal! But, it was good habits in detecting that picked up that "trash" in the first place.

It gets an honorable mention from me. :) And, so does everyone who is out there cleaning up the junk, one hole at a time.

Thanks for taking a peek and while you're having that next "bad" day, continue the good habits anyway.

Diamond in the raw, ain't that a fright! God Bless Chris

If that uncut diamond is real, you should have a jewler cut it,and then it would be a banner find in my book.Absolutley banner.:weee:

Aye! I've never been down this road before so I don't know whether I could afford to even have someone cut the stone. (If, of course, it's really a diamond.)

I think that if it can be proved to me that this is real, I'd be happy enough. Don't need accolades. Just plain happy to be having some success in my hobby and enjoying life.

My friend did call me to tell me that that the stone weighed in at .80 carats.

I think it would be neat enough to own a raw diamond. :)

Thanks for the thought and the response.

Just so you know, be sure you use a diamond tester that can identify Synthetic Moissanite (silicon carbide), from a diamond. Synthetic Moissanite is a man made gemstone that is so similar to a diamond it is extrememly hard to tell from a diamond and unless your diamond tester was designed to tell the difference between Diamond and Synthetic Moissanite it will test positive as a diamond when in fact it is a synthetic moissanite.

The cheaper diamond testers can not tell the difference, it has to be one designed to test for BOTH Diamond and Synthetic Moissanite. Synthetic Moissanite will also cut glass..............

Great WHATIFIND!!..That's a rough Diamond for sure...I think its Banner just like it is. (make sure it checks out) If cut, it will be rather small. I would get it mounted in a pretty ring setting-as is-or necklace. The Color could be worth alot. For example a pink diamond (rare to find) brings $1MIL per carat...Yellow, quite rare...Black and Purple (very rare) etc. They found a big Yellow Diamond(not the Hope Diamond) in Arkansas and they chose not to have it cut...Hilary Clinton wore it (on loan) several times.

So don't just go by carat size...the color could make it even better. I think it costs appr. $1800-$2,000. to have it cut...alot of factors though.

Very Exciting...MinerGirl..........(Lots of things cut glass...glass Moh's hardness scale is about 5.5-7 of scale of 10..Diamond is 10 and lots of things are harder than glass)

I've been to the diamond mine in Murfreesboro Ar and have never found anything. Picking up the trash paid off. Great find...Congratulations.

Outstanding! Not many can say they found one of those. Might be worth talking to a few jewlers and get an idea of worth. Yes, it would be neat to keep, but considering its size, you could end up in the same boat as the person who lost it originally. WTG-very nice find

Thanks to everyone for the advice and the kind words. What I know about diamonds wouldn't fill the smallest thimble. :)

My friend knew a lot more and had a tester but it can't tell between a man made one or natural.

So, I took it to an actual jeweler with a good reputation. He must've thought I was going there to sell it though. He started knocking down it's worth without even checking it officially. LOL But, that wasn't my purpose.

He tossed around words like octahedron, (spelling?), brown in color, not many would want to use brown in their diamond jewelry, etc.

Turns out it was a brown .82 carat natural diamond. (THAT was all I needed to know! VERY HAPPY!) Don't get me wrong, he was very knowledgeable and also very, very nice! He wasn't nasty about taking time to check it out. I just think he thought I was there to take some of his money. LOL

No matter what I do with it, I gotta figure that my battery rebate jar is full for the rest of the year now. :) No matter how many I use.

This hobby just NEVER ceases to amaze me what it leads you to find!

Thanks again for all the kind words. They are very nice to get.

HH everybody!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I doubt if I'll do much but admire this lil stone. Neat enough to have found one. I wonder though, might this be the type of stone they use to make make "Chocolate" diamond jewelry.

Anyway, I agree it's banner to my little world, quite fun actually.

.82ct for the rough one? check your scales. A rough diamond physically that big should weigh more.

Thanks mickk, but that's the weight that he said. I apologize for the quality of the pictures. Another thing I'm not, (besides not being a jeweler :) ), is a photographer. I'm afraid that the pictures may not be showing the sizes correctly. The cut diamond is REALLY, REALLY tiny! :) It may be making the uncut one look bigger.

But, thanks for the response!

Well, if I did just keep it and lose it again, that just leaves more for you to find, right. :)

Thanks for the response!

Did you Ever watch... Marathon Man? This may have been left or drop by a Diamond Exchange Seller. The type that makes deals with a hand shake... I can't tell you how many times I have dug silver when going to the trash can to deposit garbage left in the picnic areas or the woods for that matter... WTG... Oh, I dug a ring at the beach with platinum top and 18 KT, and incrusted on the sides are raw faceted diamonds, I say this because theye are the color as the stone you have in your picture... My diamond tested also rang that nice high tone and green light to go with it...
