If it is made of lead, then definitely a muzzleloading rifle or pistol ball or blackpowder revolver ball. No way to really say which for sure, as all were available in the same calibers, but rifles were much more common during the period.

It's an unusual color for a lead ball. The surface of lead that has been in the ground is often is covered with white corrosion. If the surface is not corroded, the lead color is light grey. If the ball is iron or steel, it would be corroded to reddish brown. The ball shown looks black. I don't know what corrodes to black in the ground.
