i got out with a few members of the club this afternoon to a park that Skierbob told me about last year. it had been a boy scout camp back in the woods roughly from the 40s up to the early 60s or so. finds can be scarce there, but if you really slow down and dig those iffy signals there is still good stuff to be found. the first thing i found was a 44 Washington Quarter and a 1917 Merc in the same hole. right after that i got a really deep signal and out pops this beautiful colonial shoe buckle! i wish i has a camera because the scan doesn't do it justice, its fully intact! if anyone (especially you Buckleboy!) knows anything about an approximate age on this buckle i sure would like to hear about it! after that i got a pretty good cluster of signals and out comes 5 nickels, a no date Buffalo, a 45 War Nickel, and three older Jefferson's. i think i dug a 44 wheat cent as well. then, a little later on i got another Mercury Dime! all in all it was a great day in the woods! Bob and the others also made some cool finds but i will let them post on their own. one other thing....be carefull of the damn deer ticks because i picked two off of me while i was hunting. ::) they are still active. anyway, thanks for looking!

One day, I might get a whole one as nice as yours. But I would need to be very lucky in a plowed field  Great day & a great ending to the year, although you still have time yet!

I love the buckle! Congrats.

Nice buckle!! I just found my first one today also.

Way to go, Red! 8) Super finds!!!!

Hate those ticks! >:( I thought all the snakes and ticks would be long gone by now since we've had several days (seems like months) below freezing, but to my suprise, I saw a snake Thursday evening! :-X

Nana :)

Nice job on your finds, Keith! Love those old coin spills!!

That's a buckle I know I will never find in my neck of the woods.  Very old and still intact! :o

Very nice digs! LUV those buckles. Yours must be all brass versus brass and iron. WTG!

Awesome buckle find! Those Georgian era buckles date from 1720-1790, since yours is in such pristine condition, I can see it is in great condition in spite of the fuzzy picture, I do understand Don in SJ thinking it could be just a bit newer. That buckle looks functional, just add a few drops of thin household oil, LOL. Congrats on such a find, I have seen a few found recently and they were not intact. HH, Mike

it actually is functional! the chape moves freely! i just need to be careful with it since the pin that holds the chape in looks to be very thin on one side. it would be easy to break it. i think i will mount it in a display case and not monkey around with it too much. it seems to be pretty fragile.

congrats again Keith!!! I'm glad you didn't tell me about the ticks yesterday! I've still got the hee bee gee bies....

Very nice shoe buckle and silver. Congrats

Yes, it looked functional, I have two shoe buckles functional and the knee breech buckle I found earlier this year is also functional. They are hard to display in my shadow boxes, due to the high arch curvatures, and items slip as you can see in the photos, since they are mounted vertically in my closet. But, it is a nice way of protecting and displaying them at the same time.

Very nice, Red!

Do you listen to country music? :icon_scratch:

I didn't think so...but there's a great Brad Paisley song called "I'd like to check you for ticks." :D
