Yes they did. Boy you sure are getting the rare stuff.

hi soill,
i was pretty sure they made it,i think it is a type of cypress,as there are many around the area.do you think this is an indian made pipe, that would be so cool.oh i do not know if this stuff is rare as i just started doing it.here is another picture.and it was wet, will it be alright when it dries out.thanks for your input, and if this stuff is rare im going to really start looking hard. jamey

I can't say if that pipe is indian (not that it would matter all that much to me) because it has a shape that looks modern. It's still really old. Any wood is rare and so is finding whole points on a regular basis. All of those concave base points are paleo and so they're really rare as well. Keep it up and enjoy it while it lasts. This hobby has far too many dry spells these days. At least for me.

thanks soill,it is getting slim for me now also, been trying to find some more property to hunt.hopefully on the duck river, just waiting for the ok.im convinced now that i have a good collection to study.maybe you will be detecting someday and run into a guy as nice as the one i ran into. jamey

Hey there Jamey
I bet you have had a few nice smiles this week. The pipe is way out of the norm. Could it possibly be a burnt pine knot? I can not see it very well in the pic. Did you find it buried in a cave or an overhang maybe? That is the only way I could think of it surviving.Though cypress will last a long time I only know of cypress around here planted by recent man .Of course I have been way wrong before. If you think that you may wish to sell the clovis to a reputable buyer let me know and I will hook you up. Keep posting.

You are killing us. I wish I could go hunting every day 8) I love that brown flint. We have a cove we hunt and its all brown flint. You will find where they traded it 30 miles away from the site. Are you finding a lot of knapped off flakes also?

my biggest ones yet, fresh from the ground

That flaking on that big blade is beautiful. Great looking knifes. I bet you could skin a deer in no time with that. I am going to hit a site in the morn with my girl friend. They are not plowing like they used to with the no till. Its not a great site but sometimes produces a couple. Looks like stones river is still the place to be. Any plowed fields off of where you are hunting? You might want to try them.
Congrats and thanks for sharing.

Jamey there are so many more knowledgable than me on here. I am here to learn also. If you are finding large things and it looks like the indians did it than keep it and post it. If you think about it everything they had knapped was some kinda tool. They made hoes, meat scrapers and maybe just a scrap piece of flint to skin a rabbit. Its all good to find and keep. I have buckets of broke things and pretty flint flakes and pottery sherds. That is what the hobby is about. To enjoy and the more you learn the more fun it is.
You are on one of the best areas a man could hope for and you are finding many things we all dream about. Enjoy it while it last cause trust me it wont last forever.
Jamey here is a link of some of the materials we find in this area your area also. The indians traded this stuff far and wide see if it looks familiar to you http://lithicsourcing.com/index_files/FortPayneChert.htm
you may also have or see dover flint http://tennesseeencyclopedia.net/imagegallery.php?EntryID=D049 You are doing great and we all are looking forward to seeing your post. Dont worry if you have a bad day. We say if we find just one it is a good day. Keep it fun and listen and watch what these other guys are saying,.. If you can buy a book called" tribes that slumber" it is great and is about the area you and I are in. Easy fun reading and you will refer to it many times but it does help some, I will be 50 miles from ya in the morn but on the OTHER SIDE OF THAT MOUNTAIN,, haha
Later ,
Richard

Holy Cow, Jamey, you're killing me! A person could search a lifetime and not find what you uncovered in the past two months. Keep up the good work (or play)!

Jamey,
That is an attractive little point. You have a great cross-section of pieces. No need to cry!, you've done very well. Thank you for the excellent photos.
